Hi everyone! I am new here and registered just now to share our love for our guinea pig Boba. It will be a long post but I really need to get it out. My girlfriend and I were devastated by her sudden leaving last Friday, and I did not have the strength to post here till now. Boba was cremated and we picked up her ashes and had a memorial service for her yesterday. I think I am finally ready to talk about it on this forum.

My girlfriend and I adopted two guinea pigs in February, Ice cream and Boba. We loved them so much so we got another guinea pig, Sesame, not long after. Boba was a tricolor American guinea pig. The three sisters made a lovely herd and they were so happy together. Boba was always the skittish one. She always hided under something when she was not eating, drinking or popcorning. Even with eating, she usually took one piece of veggie in one of her hideouts to enjoy.

We had to move half way across the country last week, and we could not find an airline that would take them (we believe Frontier is the only airline in the US that allows guinea pigs, which did not have the flight we needed), so we decided to drive for three days. The guinea pigs apparently did not love traveling, so they all hided all the way while in the car. In the evening we stayed at hotels and they were put in their cage. Boba was especially scared, but because she was always the timid one of the herd, we did not think it was a big deal. We gave them enough food and veggies and put a cover over the cage so we thought they could relax. On the last day of our trip, Boba had some discharge in her eyes, which we cleaned. We settled in our new home on Thursday, and on Friday morning, we found her in her nest, sleeping forever.

We were so so sad and were not prepared for it at all. We thought she just needed some rest and would get familiar with the new environment and be fine. Her sisters are fine and are already enjoying themselves in the new home. We made sure Boba did not show signs or URI or anything, but did not think that she could pass so suddenly. We could not help but thought that it was partially our fault for not taking better care of her during our move and it was too stressful for her. We cremated her right away on the same day. Her ashes came back yesterday and we held a memorial service for her. The cremation place also gave us her paw and nose prints and samples of her fur to remember her by. Besides my girlfriend and I, her two guinea pig sisters and her cat sister Mochi (we think of all our pets as sisters of each other) also attended the memorial service. One of our friends who used to care for her for a week when we were away made a video with her old clips and we played it on the memorial service. We told Boba that she had a short but happy life with us and we were glad she was in a happy place now. We hoped she was enjoying herself and had made new friends on the rainbow bridge. We also told her that we would be so happy if her spirit would like to come back to us as another pet, or even as our own child (it probably does not make sense, but the thought made us feel so much better), so we could love and care for her again.

Boba was, and is still deeply loved. We believe she had a happy life and did not suffer much when she left us. I did not add photos here because I still cannot look at old photos and clips without crying. It was especially sad because we had hoped it would be the beginning of a new life at a new city for all of us together. We hope we can be reunited with our sweet girl Boba in the future in some form. And we wish happiness and health to our other guinea pig babies.

Thank you for reading!
