Usually when we go away for the weekend, my neighbour pops in twice a day and feeds Jack and Charlie. But I wondered if I gave them loads of hay and food, would they be OK on their own for a couple of days?

Here's the scenario:

I'm going away on Thursday afternoon, I'll feed them before I leave. My husband will still be here on Friday so can feed them Friday morning and afternoon. Then he will come and join us. We'll all be back by lunchtime on Sunday. So if hubbie gave them loads of food and hay on Friday afternoon, would they be OK till Sunday lunchtime?

Or should I ask my neighbour to pop in on Saturday? I think she must be getting fed up with us though as we go away for quite a lot of weekends.

I think you'll have to ask your neighbour. Guineas guts on foods, they don't know when to stop God love them! :)

when i had my surgery 12 months ago, due to my panic attacks, depression, fear of people hubby came too. OH and i were gone for 3 days and our piggies were fine. we gave them hay in there racks and as bedding, lots of veggies and fruit plus dry food and extra bottles of water,we were gone from tuesday morning till the friday and there was still food left over. which we think was because they missed us, the human contact and companionship. we had the radio on for them and had our neighbour pop into check them but still think they missed us. it depends on you and your piggies. would you be able to enjoy yourself if you didn't have the neighbour pop in to check on them? if you do have the neighbour pop in buy her a potted plant, box of chocolates, or something to say thank you. and to show you appreciate what she does for you! you don't know she is fed up, she might be happy she is needed and she secrectly may love your GP'S too. if worried invite her around for a cuppa and a chat, get to know her! good luck with whatever you decide! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I agree with Choloe and your neighbour may love the fact that you trust her to keep an eye out for your GPs. I'm sure she'd let you know if she didn't want to help out. O0 Good luck and have a great weekend! :smitten:

I'll pop round and ask her tonight. I know she is fond of the boys, she has a guinea pig of her own who I look after when she is away. But I seem to go away a lot more than her :embarassed: Shame we can't bond the three boys and keep them all together when one of us is away, but I don't think it would work somehow. My two are about 18 months old and bonded, but hers is 2 and has always lived alone.

They get used to a routine as much as any other pet, you can't leave vegetables in a cage for two days they will go brown. I would ask my neighbour too.

i would ask your neighbour to, cuz what if your poor darlings ran out of water whilst you were gone.
