weekly weight change...how much is ok?

My Hoster is nearly 1400g too! Thought she was pregnant for a while as shes so big.

She does eat more than the others, (she's always the one sitting in the hay tray) but pellet wise they all eat about the same. Surprisingly she's more active than the others too so I'm not sure how I'ld get her weight down should I ever need to.

If it's not causing her any health problems I'm not overly worried, maybe as she gets older the weight may become a strain on her little legs so I'll have to keep a eye on her. Be a shame if she lost that great big chubby bum though! xxxxxxxxxx

Animals tend to eat what they need, it is human beings who eat what they want rather than what they need!

ok, thanks.

think i will keep on feeding them as i am, maybe stop the little bits i feed through the day though, and give them the right exercise and then he will be how he is meant to be - if that is chubby then aslong as i'm doing everything right, he is obv meant to be that.

i think being a bit chubby will be ok over winter, and in spring when they start playing out in the run again, he will probably tone up a little bit anyway.

thanks again. :)

weighed the piggies today and they have both lost weight. this is just from the extra exercise and the same food.

maisie 1225g to 1187g - loss of 38g
chesney 1462g to 1425g - loss of 37g

so i am now feeding them right and they are having the right amount of exercise so however they are meant to be now, they will be.

they may lose a little bit more soon though as i am upgrading their cage to a 3 x 5 grid c&c.

so the weight might drop a little over the next couple of weeks and then they will level out i guess and maintain what they need etc. :)

Glad things seem to be solved now! I bet they will love their new cage, can't wait to see pics. :)

well ches seems to be doing so much more popcorning and movement than usual! i kept the food the same as usual but they have been having more exercise and this time ches stayed the same at 1425g and maisie was the one who put on weight - 25g, up to 1212g.

the bigger cage they are getting has had to be put off for a bit but i can't wait to build it for them.

just bankrupt from rabbit vet bills at the minute!

both are still moving around so much more, and this week...

chesney 1425g to 1415g
maisie 1187g to 1180g

so both another loss but a smaller one and they seem to be levelling out now. :)

Great update, I am pleased things seem to be evening out a little. Mine have also been getting more exercise this week and oddly all have gained a few grams! Must be muscles building up. :))

well scattering the veg around for them and extra exercise, plus lots of new exciting things to play with has slimmed them down. they now weigh:

chesney 1397g
maisie 1136g

nice weights and i have the food sorted properly now aswell so looking good here. :)p

yes, i am definitely sorted and have all the food right now... and they have been so happy with all the new things to play with! now ches has slimmed down a bit he can popcorn even more and he actually jumped quite high today! high for him anyway! maisie loves sprinting round. so i am happy. :)
