Gigi has a permanently weepy eye, with a whitish discharge. She had weeks of antibiotics eye drops but this just made the eye sore and the weeping continued. Her sister Dandelion won’t leave this eye alone, she is frequently licking it, which I don’t think is good for either of them. Anyone else been through this? Any advice welcome!

Why don't you think it's good for Dandelion? Are you worried she'll ingest some of the antibiotics?

Guineas quite often lick each others' eyes.

Micah was an eye licker.
He loved to lick his favourite wife’s eyes.
The white discharge could be cleaning fluid.

We always advise that if you do have a health concern then see a vet.
As your vet knows about Gig’s eye maybe just a phone call would help

Dandelion most likely knows something is wrong with the eye and her licking is her trying to help it. It is known that saliva has very mild properties which can help with healing.

What was the diagnosis of the eye issues?
White milky discharge can be normal cleaning fluid.

The antibiotic eye drops were stopped a while ago as they didn’t help. Dandelion has had a couple of chest infections since she’s been licking Gigi’s eye.

Vet just gave antibiotic eye drops which she had for several weeks, during which her eye just got more inflamed. We think it probably is milky eye but the eye still seems sore, I was worried the licking was making it worse but maybe it’s nothing to worry about. I think I’ll have to get her seen by the vet again. Thanks for your thoughts on this.
