Hi There, my 3 year old sow was weighed in at 1.07kg about 6 months ago at the vets and was told her weight was ok but at its maximum for her, which was fine. Anyway her weight is now 850g and not sure if this is ok or not? I don't believe she is ill as she is eating, drinking, wanting her treats and veg etc so nothing out of character. I am going to weigh her everyday at the mo to ensure she is not still losing weight but if she remains the same should I still be worried? Not quite sure what angle to go on this so would appreciate your thoughts........ I did wonder if I should try critical care formula just to see if it made a difference?

That is a loss of around 150 grams. Have you changed her food intake at any point over the last 6 months? Are you feeding her less? Unfortunately without knowing her weights it is impossible to tell when she has lost the 150 grams.
Definitely continue to weigh daily at the moment and remember to weigh regularly as it is often the first indication of any issues.

It is good news she is eating and acting normal. anymore weight loss please get her checked out at a vet straight away.

Thanks for your post, I haven't changed anything as far as food is concerned. I changed their pellets but that was about 4 months ago and she is eating them....

As sport_billy said, I would weigh regularly & see what happens. That is a fairly substantial weight loss but no way of knowing whether it has been gradual or sudden. If the weight loss continues, I would get her checked out by a good cavy vet & ask for her back teeth to be checked just in case this could be the issue.

Best wishes to your piggie :)

What about exercise? Has anything changed to give her opportunity to run around more (ie bigger cage or someone to play with)?
