Hello. One of my pigs have lost around 56g in the last 4 months.
Is this cause for concern?
I’ve noticed a 10g loss in the last day (decided to do daily weighing as he’s had a big loss however I feel daily weighing if it isn’t a cause for concern is just going to get me obsessed with his weight) but I am changing their pellets from burgess to science selective grain free.
Would you book a vets visit for a 56g loss over 3 months or is it really not that much of a deal? He’s eating, drinking, bright eyes, squeaking and happy.

if You are noticing a continual downward trend or sudden drops, then that is something which needs investigating.

if a piggy is losing weight then it is down to reduced hay consumption. Veg is only 15% of the daily food intake (50g of veg per day) and pellets just 5% (one tablespoon per day only).

Weight - Monitoring and Management

I will weigh him again tomorrow and see if he’s lost any again. He’s still a healthy weight of 1231 and doesn’t appear to have any problems. He’s constantly sitting in his hay grazing. If he continues to lose over the next week I’ll book vets :)
