Hi!

So, one of my guinea pigs did something weird. You know the movement of like gagging? Like youre about to throw up? Well she kinda did that. I have only seen this happen once (this time) but it kinda seemed like she was trying to push her bum out while moving her head, not towards her cagemate but maybe like trying to poo? I tried to get a video but she stopped right when I went for my phone. Since she was like pushing her bum out, I'm wondering if she couldnt poo? So, right now she is in a separate space with hay etc, cuz I want to see if she will poo or not. Does anyone know whats happening?

It wasn't like gagging though, her mouth wasnt open. It was gagging but switch it, she was gagging with her bum? She has since pooed, though both her and her cagemates poos are smaller than normal. I'm bringing the vet some poo samples in a few days. Though, I'm still worried about the movement

Smaller poops could perhaps suggest a gut imbalance, lowered food etc. I would stop giving them fresh veggies and keep them just on hay (they can still have pellets) and see if things normalise. In the meantime, definitely get to a vet.

ok, thank you!
I called the vet, and the only one who treats piggies is out on Christmas break until January 2nd. Would five days be to long of a wait?
The assistant (?) said that she can still send the poo samples to the lab, but she doesn't feel comfortable doing a check up on the guinea pigs. Maybe the
lab results will help solve the issue, without the need dor a checkup?

It would be impossible for us to say whether it was too long as we don’t know what is wrong. You would have to feel comfortable with your decision - it would be wrong and unsafe for us to tell you to wait
Lab results might give an idea of the issue but they may not - we would always advise that a vet does a hands on examination.

Weigh your piggies daily to ensure they are eating enough hay.

I was able to find another vet, and I brought them both for a checkup. The vet said she didn't see anything wrong/abnormal but gave me some fibreplex and
told me to take the piggies off of veggies for a few days. This is the third day they have been off veggies and their poos are getting back to normal, their weight has also stayed stable throughout. She also told me to see if Petunia did the movement again, which she hasnt! So, hopefully everything goes well and stays well!
Thanks for all the advice!
