First and foremost, I've already made an appointment with my vet for this issue, I was just looking to see if anyone has had a similar issue.

I just noticed a strange sore on my guinea pigs butt, it looks pretty gross, and I have no idea what it is/what may have caused it. Has anyone ever encountered something like this? 20210305_150917.webp

Wow that looks horrible, well done for getting vets op.
Course with something as nasty or weird, how is piggies otherwise,
Hopefully someone might have a idea etc,
What I will add is hopefully it treatable and I send you best vibes,

It is impossible to tell from a photo, but it looks like it could be some form of cyst or abscess.
It is good you have a vet appointment sorted because that definitely needs a proper check up and some form of treatment.

Thanks she seems very normal otherwise so I'm not freaking out yet. She also has a history of abcesses under her neck and on her head, but nothing on her butt not sure if it is in anyway related.

Thank your your vibes.

Yes she has a history of abscesses but never in this region of her body 🤔 my vet is all booked up for a long while, which is frustrating I don't want to have to wait so long to get a professional opinion.

It's good that she's being checked... to me it looks like an abscess or cyst that is in the process of rupturing... one of my pigs had this happen in a similar location (near the grease line, but hers was more centrally) and the vet was able to surgically remove the entire abscess capsule and stitch it back up again.

That sounds very likely knowing my pigs medical background. She has a history of abscesses but they usually pop up on her neck or head. Thanks for replying

No problem! Fingers crossed that's all it is!
