I went to Bobtails rescue in Ewell yesterday.
It was so lovely, the staff who work there were super friendly and allowed me to hold some guinea pigs. I asked as many questions as I could, I made sure that I was able to have a home check etc
They also gave me a small information pack, a leaflet about a guide to guinea pigs, and some papers about if they are right for you or not etc I thought this was really good as some people will go home, read and realise it may not be right for them.
When I first held a guinea pig, I was soooo nervous, I wasn't scared of it but scared of dropping it. It was a little girl, smooth haired, red eyes and white body. She was a baby according to the staff and I have to say she was pretty small lol She was wriggling around and it was so funny, she kept trying to go up to my shoulders.
I held nearly all their guinea pigs and some were more relaxed than the others. They said sometimes the guinea pig chooses you. I absolutely loved it and I gave them kisses on their head. They didn't smell at all (which I thought they did, just a little lol) I found the adult guinea pigs to hold easier but I think I prefer the younger ones because they're extra cuuute!
They said that they have single boars and sows but can only be taken in sow-boar pairs. They do not allow boars and boars together. Nearly all the guinea pigs were reserved which was really nice to see and I told them that when I am ready, when I have everything ready, I will come over and reserve my two.
I have so far decided that I am definately a guinea pig lover!, I enjoyed the time I spent with them.
Still have a lot to learn and it seems forever, but as my boyfriend reassured me that it is better to wait a year, have it all prepared so the guinea pigs will be happy in their home. Least we sponsered a little guinea pig called black jack!
