i was cleaning my piggies out and i picked one of them up and he was drenched all underneath him and by his legs could this be sweat. i wiped him with a damp clothe and dried him after , i have been watching him closely

Is he long haired? it could be wee. Lloyd used to always have a wet bum till I started keeping her hair really short x

no hes a shorthaired guinea pig it was his bum area just on his tummy area and by his legs

That would not cause an infection but increased drinking can be the symptom of an infection.

Please see a vet. It is most likely a URI, a urinary tract infection, especially if the pee is rather strong and stale smelling. Mention the drinking lots to the vet; it is a symptom of URI, but could be tied to other issues with the urinary tract, too.

In case of a URI ask for some metacam (painkiller and anti-inflammatory) for the first 2-3 days to help ease the discomfort and the acute symptoms if necessary. The best antibiotic for this job is septrin. Drinking is a good sign, the more he flushes his bladder, the better. You can help with mildly diuretic foods like cucumber and dandelion during the acute phase, but please don't overfeed; he may get diarrhea otherwise.

We have got a piggy savvy vet locator on the top bar if you need to find a vet.

It sounds like a possible urinary tract infection to me too, when Mrs Fuzzy had one a few months back she was leaking wee. He needs to see a vet for antibiotics, preferably Septrin as it is more effective on UTIs than Baytril.

thank you , i need to change vets after they charged me £15 pound for claws , i will get onto this asap

PS: Many of the vets on our list are exotics specialists, so not always the cheapest, but they reliably know what they are doing when it comes to piggies!

Just a thought, but as you were cleaning them out, could it be that he sat down in a pool of wee? Some piggies drink lots and other not so much, but it's a change in drinking habits that is the sign to look out for. Having said all that, you do need to check out the UTI. Good luck. x
