In the past i have always taken them to the vet nurse and want to do the same with my new babies, but i have not had them this young before so not sure of the best time. They are 10-12 weeks..ish?

thanks :)

wait til they are about six months. This is because they are still growing and you do not want to traumatize them that way. I was told to wait til my furball was six months old to cut her nails, just because she was still pretty small and the vet didn't want to hurt her and to scare her

I was told to start as early as possible just so that they got used to it and it wasn't a big fight every time. I took my little guy in when he was 2 months old.

I took mione in at 4 months and was told didnt need doing yet as still very soft..i had been taking the ends off myself.

But yes i think 5/6 months really.

Thats a very nice vet.

Previous pigs I've had didn't have their nails cut until 12 months.. they just didn't need them doing earlier than that.

Yes, the vet I go to specializes in guinea pigs and in order for them to be comfortable around her, she has to gain their trust and at a young age when you clip their nails before six months hence why they are given a check up and then given a shot of something to keep them healthy. (My furball just had her shot 3 weeks ago) I even clip her nails just to keep them shaped. Oreo has a peuter stone for her teeth and she rubs her nails on it to give herself her own manicure! After that I just shape them with my nail clippers and take her specially crafted ones if shes missed a few nails. I took her to the vet just recently because she had her 3 month shot while still at the petstore I got her from. (Handy isn't it)

I actually am not sure. But it protects her from any infections and helps her live longer if she is outside and running around. Some owners do put them on a harness and leash and let them run around outside. My last guinea pig would get those as well and she lived til she was ten. I think it is a booster shot of somesort to keep their immune system up.

Oh and Sonia, I am sorry for confusing you. but here in Saskatoon, people pay a high price for vaccinations or boosters. However I am not entirely sure about what the booster shot does but all I know is that she gets 1/4 of the full dosage because of her size and that she is mostly an indoor animal

Many thanks all:) I will leave it a couple of months and then maybe take them for a check up to make sure all is well:)
