well as this is a gp orum i am sure you won't be biased at all hehex but what i want to knowis gp have a rep as being shy so i was wondering if this was true cos i would like one that would like cuddles =] x Ta if you could help =] x

it depends on what your after really, if you want a loving pet that you can devote time to then aguinea pig would be great, they do come with some cost though as they are eating machines lol plenty of hay, dry food and a daily meal of veggies is a must as they need vitami C, they dont make thier own.

they are very skittish to start off with, but its all change for them, new house, new people, new smells etc..it takes time but they do warm to you.

mine are all friendly and like having a cuddle, my 2 boys live in my room with me ive had duke for 9 months and he jumps up at the bars waiting for me to talk to him and he's very relaxed around me and isnt scared of anything..ive just got my new boar who is 7 weekes old now and he's very scared still but you need to give them time, patience is a must lol i have some elderly ladies who are both 5 1/2 and they are both v friendly but i have looked after them for that long they know they can trust me :)

overall they are easy to keep, but do be prepared for taking them to the vets and the costly bills which all animals can bring :)

Also, if you rescue them, there are lots of guinea pigs in rescues, if you let us know which town your near I'm sure someone will know of one.

And its always best to buy as pair of guinea's as they are a sociable animal and like company, many of us have quite a few in a group i have 5 girls that live together, and then i have my 2 boars, more than 2 boars in a group and your probably going to have arguments.

Well i already have a rabbitbut don't worry i know bunnies and gps can';t live together but we have got plenty of hay =] x and yes i was thinking about getting a rescue but we live in newbury berkshire =? so don't know if there are any near =] Ta x

I would suggest a couple of Sows to start off with. Boys are great and I touched lucky with my two but they could fight later on. My Aby's like being stoked but only for a while if you are looking for a cuddle buddy then maybe smooth haired or short haired pigs would be better. My 2 semi long and one long haired Sheltie aren't over keen on it, could be because they are boys or could be just down to the individual pig. :)

Good luck and try googling Guinea pig rehoming there is a list there of rescues in different areas.

thanx x well i can't have them yet cos we need to sort outt the shed for Mopsy then the cage will be free the the cavies =] x

They all have different personalities so there are none that are the same its just like us to be honest not all of us are the same ;)

Guinea Pigs are very sociable and are loving too once you catch them as they are naturally frightened like they are in the wild but once you cuddle them they LOVE it O0

It also depends on what sex you get although i dont see a difference in the gender, what age the guinea pigs are and whether or not they were handled much in the past and as babys :smitten:

I agree all piggies have diff personalities despite whether male or female, long haired or short.

they are shy but its so rewarding when they trust you, if you want a pet that interacts more, to train etc you may say ewwww but a pair of rats would be good.

my two piggies are different personalities. One loves cuddles the other would rather be left alone. No guarantees as to what type you'd get though. :)

Welcome to the forum :)
There is a rescue quite near to you in Reading called The reading Guinea pig rescue. Karen, who runs the rescue from her home, is a member on here. Here is the link to her website:
http://www.readingguineapigrescue.co.uk/

or if you put a post under `animal rescue` on here and state your location, I am sure she will see it :) She has some ready for their forever homes I think.

actually i don't mind rats its grandma who stays for christmas and mum that mind them =] hehe

i did have a hammie called Rosie but she sadly died only after 3 months however she was in the ppetshop for 3 - 4 months. i miss her terribly but i feel i won't be able toget another hammie like her =] x
Also yes i did see the cavy rescue howevr will there need to be a homecheck cos my dad had to take the day off when we had to have a homecheck for Andy ( our dog) and he is one of those people who doesn't think smal animals are worth it. =[ he says that but then he gets all mushy when he holds them x :D

and also we aren't ready at this precise moment cos the shed for mopsy has to go up then the hutch will be free for the gp =] x thnx for all the answers =] x
