Hi i was just wondering what was the best comb or brush to use please. I have a 10 week old alpaca boar so his hair is not too long yet but i know it is going to need brushing once he has settled in his new home. How long shall i leave him before i start to brush him?

Thank you from Hannah and Marley :)

hey guys!
with my long haired peruvian i found that cat and dog brushes didnt work very well..they werew to soft and wouldnt penetrate very well so i started to use one of my own soft plastic bristle paddle brushes on her.it worked much better and she looks much more elegant! :)p

oh but on the time scale..just when it grew about an inch long! :D

ThaNk you amylouise i never thought about using one of my brushes. I would say his fur is an inch long now but only had him a few days so how long should I leave him to settle? He is still very skittish.

Thanks again hannah and Marley :)

For my Sheltie, I use a soft slicker brush made for a cat, that's a kind of wire brush you can get in most pet shops if you ask them. You have to be very gentle with it though, or you can scratch them.

I also use a metal wide toothed comb (for a dog) to comb out any tangles in the long fur.

And a soft bristle bunny brush just for keeping the fur clean, but it doesn't really get out tangles. But he likes being brushed with it!

when its brush time..i get yumyum out on my lap, give her some veggies to settle her and use the whole of my hand of stroke her from her head to bum..after a few strokes while shes chomping..i introduce my brush..so it like stroke, stoke, brush, stroke, stroke, brush, so she doesnt notice then as soon as shes cool, quick brush..job done! she quite cool..she loves being handled but not stroked! shes wierd! xx>>>
oh! all throu it..talk to her..i always tell yum yum what I'm doing..i think the sound of your voice settles them! but then again..i have no friends! hahahaha! ^)

hope this helps :D
xx
