i want to start growing some herbs etc for the buns and piggies but i don't know what compost to use. :{

most you can buy have horrible animal by-products in them, especially organic ones :{ ... it says on the vegan website...

It can be very difficult to ensure that purchased material such as compost is truly free from animal by-products; the word 'organic' often means that poultry manure, fish emulsion or slaughterhouse by-products are included. Question the manufacturers carefully :)>>>

it makes me feel really sick...

does anyone know the best one to use, apart from having to make your own which can take ages... :(

makes me feel sick to think what all the supermarket herbs and veg is grown in. :)>>>

Find yourself a local keen gardener or allotment associasion and ask what goes into making thiers and if you're happy ask if you buy enough for the job you want to do.

And I suggest you start your own compost heap for the future hun.

We have 2 of our own compost heaps and a compost bin, compost bins are v. good.

what kind of things are you supposed to put in it and for how long? sorry, i don't know much about it all. :)

You might want to contact them and ask if they know what is in the compost it comes with but yeah a complete kit looks good or you could ask friends if they have any second hand pots and then just buy the compost and some packets of seeds from the garden centre.

Well my piggies are contributers to my compost bin if that's any help, it's full up with poop at the minute, but I just use mine for my summer flower pots now.

My vegetable plot, now a nettle plot, I lost that battle rolleyes is going to be a piggie area, with a couple of sheds and a greenhouse on it eventually. But when I did grow vegetables down there it got a layer of horse manure on it each Oct/Nov and that's all it really needs. My neighbours didn't like it much but my veggies were huge.

I know it doesn't help with the organic debate but you may be lucky enough to find a stables that follow an organic path.

i emailed planet guinea about their compost bricks and they are fine to use. no nasty stuff in them. :))

just ordered some, and some different seeds aswell.

lets hope i can actually grow some things now. :))

Are we never safe?! :{

I didn't even think of that... but thankfully I went with planet guinea's for convience, guess it was a good idea rolleyes.

Yep, I am also sticking to the Brilliant Bricks of compost. Too much trouble trying to find any other compost, least I know the Brilliant Brick is ideal for guinea gardening!
