Hello all,

One of my guinea pigs - Porche has started to show signs of URI (whisteling with her nose, runny eyes, heavy breathing) so of course we've booked her into the vets for tomorrow.

I obviously am aware that, that is most likely a URI, but she's also been squeaking/straining slightly when she uses the toilet (I think just pooping). What could be expected at the vets? I was thinking a possible bladder stone but I really do hope not. She is suspected to be 3-4 years of age and I don't think she'd cope well with surgery :(

Vibes please!

Have her checked for UTI more likely than a stone. Both illnesses are opportunists that can hit when the immune system is lowered.

Sounds like a possible Urinary tract infection/ cystitis with the squeaking when pooing/peeing. It may be that she has both a URI and a UTI at the same time as her immune system is lowered due to having an URI.

Oh God, how awful for her :( I'm hoping she'll be ok. I've seen no blood in the urine and she is still eating and drinking fine!

Try not to worry too much, I'm sure she will be fine. You are doing your best by getting her to the vets as soon as you have noticed.
