What did my Guinea pig die of?
Hi everyone, I know it’s a bit of a broad question and I guess there’s so many answers to it. But my Guinea pig died very suddenly last night and maybe if I give you the symptoms it could maybe give an idea of what it could have been?
So she was always a quiet pig compared to the other one, she never made noise and wasn’t the most active pig. She’d move about but didn’t like to run around etc. Last night about 8pm I come home and realised that she hadn’t eaten much and wasn’t pooing very well. That rang alarm bells but unfortunately the vets were shut so I hand fed her and watered her, massaged her belly to help with the poo. She was very bloated and very hard in her stomach. Towards the early hours of the night she became paralysed on her back legs, just dragging around. I also noticed a lot of blood and mucus coming out of her down below, I obviously knew from then this is very bad news. I made her as comfortable as possible and if she made it though the night I will take her to vets first thing to be put to sleep as it seemed she lost all movement on her back end.
Que 4am, she went into her hidey and passed away in her sleep. I am absolutely devastated and distraught as it happened so quickly and how she just changed just like that. During the morning she was a happy little soul eating away and by that evening she was pretty much gone. Does anyone have an idea what it could have been? Some sort of infection? Tumour possibly in uterine area? It’s so very sad. I know she must of had bloat or gut stasis but what on earth could have brought it on so sudden? I now have a lost pig left behind but unfortunately she’s been recently diagnosed with cancer so she has been very poorly herself. Since the cancer piggy has fallen ill, this is when my other piggy suddenly died so I am not sure if it’s to do with stress or sadness?
Sorry for long message but I just would like some answers atleast. I just feel so angry with myself. I feel the worst mum..
