Hello!

I have had two guinea pigs for 6 years! I loved them both dearly and we had a strong bond. About a month or two ago, one of them has passed leaving her 6 year old sister. Ever since my remaining guinea pigs has mainly been in her hideys and has mostly avoided petting. I took the time since to give her time to grieve and see how she behaves while I think about what to do. I am unable to get another guinea pig at this time due to financial issues and i live with my parents who have refused. They also said I could not foster so that is also out of the picture. What else can I do for her?

(I have plans to give her to a trustworthy animal shelter however I am looking for alternatives before making that decision.)

So sorry for your loss and the difficult decision you have to make.

If you can’t explain to your parents that companionship is very important for piggies and that fostering is only for the remaining life span of your surviving piggy, the giving her toa trustworthy animal shelter is probably the best option.
It will be heartbreaking for you to do that, like another bereavement.

Be gentle with yourself as you grieve.
Holding you in my heart

Hello and welcome to the forum. I’m so sorry for your loss.

I agree with @Merab. If you have a trustworthy shelter near you then they will be able to let her live her final days, weeks, months, years even, with company. ❤️

Your love for her shines through. It will be a hard decision for you to make but it’s made with love at the heart of it. Sending you hugs. 🥰

I agree with the above. For a lot of us the pig cycle does end. We'll be there in a few years, all being well in the meantime.

I know of rescues who have senior homes where old herds live out their days. One of them posted that they had a surrender and the person even made a file stating what their pig likes and dislikes. I imagine we'll be like that, and likely the same for you :)
