now i know it is a long way off(summer) but i just wondered what sort of arrangements you all made for your piggies while you are away? it would be very difficult to move my c&c cage, and pet sitters can work out expensive, i am not sure my neighbours are up to all the cleaning out, its quite a task, and a big ask, i have plenty of time to sort out the right solution to this, just wondered what you all do ?

I take mine with me when I go to my grandparents or relatives. We go for 2 weeks (roughly) At a time and I have a nice big carrier for them. It works well for me.

If your not able to take them, then I cant help, but Just though I would reply. :)

i have nt even booked it yet! are you saying you dont have a holiday because of your piggies? might be that way for me !

I normally get either friends or family, someone to pop in each day , give it a quick clean and replace hay and food etc. Although if its longer than 5 days, I take them to stay at my parents, (with ther c&c cage).

so if they go with you(this might be possible) do you take collapsible cages? we have five boars, and would mean 3 cages, we also take our dog on holiday!

You can't not have a holiday because you have piggies, thats crazy, just make sure you have someone responable to look after them :)
Everyone needs a break !

I have a house sitter come and stay but I have a lot of animals so it is easier, cheaper and better for all of them :)

Maybe worth asking on here if there is anyone local to you who would be happy to look after them for a couple of weeks? Gotta be worth a shot! :)

i agree! but i CANT leave our dog.. last year for the first time ever,(she is 6 ) we left her with a good friend who also has a dog our dog knows well, i cried when i dropped her off, missed her like crazy, sent her a postcard, and spent weeks making it up to her!(even though i think she had a great time) mad or what?

Boyfriends mum and when I go home at xmas for a wheek and a half, my boyfriend will be taking care of them

thankyou, another possibility x i am so glad i asked this on here, this forum always comes up with such good ideas!

One of my neighbours have guinea pigs aswell so we watch each others when on holiday it was through watching hers that I got my guinea pigs

We ought to set something like that up, i'm sure there's people on here who would always be local to one of us who could look after each other piggies.

Mine used to go to my mums but now I have 4 in a 2 storey c & c which can't be moved, plus she's allergic so 2 for a week is really pushing it, she couldnt be able to cope with 4 in the house. So now she comes round morning and night to feed, water, poop scoop etc :))

My indoor piggies go to various people who are happy to look after them. They go in indoor cages. I don't think it hurts for them to be in a slightly smaller space for a week or two, particularly if they're being spoilt rotten by their temporary slaves. You may be able to borrow the indoor cages particularly if you go away in summer as some people will put their piggies out for summer and not be using them.

I've just read this through and it sounds as if I palm them off to any passer by that's happy to take them. Doh! mallethead

My mum has my six pigs for us and our cats go in a cattery, although I alwys do feel kinda bad about leaving them there..

I would always be happy to take a pair of piggies for a week or two in the North West :)

When we went to Florida, we gave Ginger and Snap to our neighbour. They have a young son and he thought that they were his, so when we returened he was upset! Poor Ryse.:)

I have a lovely Mum who looks after all my animals when I am away. She loves them as much as i do!
