What does everybody do with the soiled hay?

I have been placing mine in my weekly green waste bin as it is organic material, along with grass cuttings and garden waste. I have also been reserving a small amount each week and mixing it into my garden soil. Sounds disgusting but the hay and poop will, I believe, benefit the soil.

I don't have a compost bin as yet, but I am considering getting one.

Any more ideas welcome!

Studpidly threw most out for ages, now we're putting it on the garden as a mulch cause of drought. Only thing is OH doesn't like to rip it up smaller cause it's got poops etc... in it ;D ;D doesn't worry me when i clean them out :)
And yes we're using some in the compost to give it a boost O0

I never have any hay left over :)

but with the wood shavings and news paper it all goes in the bin.

yer... my bunnies hardly ever leave hay left over... but whatever mess is in the cage at the end of the week goes in the bin :)

me too with my lot there would much too much to compost

I've started putting everything in the compost bin (newspaper, carefresh, hay, poo!) I figured it was all organic and non meat based so why not!

I got my bin from the council for about £4 but they've gone up to £8 now, which is still really reasonable considering the size of it.

my compost bin is full up with it! ive spread it around the flower beds but they are full up too. i have to burn my excess which makes me even less popular with the neighbours, what with my 5 cats pooping in their gardens and my stinky poop smouldering bonfires xx0 i was going to do the 'garden waste' collection scheme with the council but apparently its 'contaminated waste' although i think it would make excellent compost for the council! ::)

The hay that I try to recycle is the old bedding hay. My boys eat all their good eating hay which is of better quality than the bedding one.

I will seriously think about a compost bin for the future.

I'm waiting for the delivery of the garden waste bin to put the hay in. I'm wanting a small compost bin, wooden slatted type so I can stain it and hide it.

my piggies eat it all. i say. "no! its your bedding not your dinner!" i keep a seperate little bit on the bottom floor to munch on, but piggies lol. :D

My piggies eat all the hay i put in when i clean them out i also have a hay thing that i put hay in frequently which is ALL eaten and the shavings justgo in the bin.
It is a waste but if i got a compost bin it would be full within two weeks and we dont have any 'garden waste' schemes (not that i know of will research that) so it all gioes in the bin (we do have a paper recycling scheme)

i put mine in the normal everyday green coloured bin, until the stupid binmen got it all over the damn road today and didnt clean up afterwards

I put it in with the garden waste mostly. Other than that it gets bagged then taken to the tip.

Big problem for me. Used to put it in the green bin but they won't take it now so have got 3 compost bins which fill up really quickly. The tip won't compost it so it's likely to end up in landfill. My problem is the soiled newspaper. Have masses of it and it fills the dustbin really quickly, and is so heavy.

I put the newspaper in the recycle bin ;) its only used for hospital sick basins or loo rolls anyway ;)

We used to have a compost bin but it stank and flies were always around it. Now we have a wormery and it's much more clean and efficient! I've named the worms too :)

I just use 5 or 6 papers worth newspaper sheets topped with lots of hay now, and it gets changed every 4 weeks with alot of hay-demanding in between so there's plenty of hay left over at the end with many poops too
it goes into the back of the garden and onto the new grass I'm growing (well, trying to grow)
we've been getting alot more cats around there now, though :-\
