I'm having real problems at the moment with what to put on the floors of their cage, wood shavings seem to go everywhere and when I put it upstairs it doesn't stay there very long it gets knocked down to the bottom floor. I use care fresh for their loo and places where they go I'm just worried about their little feet on the wood any ideas ?

I always line hutches with a good layer of newpaper. I fold it on the hutch that is a double decker with a ramp I have put a guard up the ramp and another by the gap on the top half to prevent them falling when darting about ;) this helps stop it going everywhere to some extent. I take the ramp out when I clean it out makes it easier to do.

I too use newspaper to line my hutches with then use Russel Rabbit straw. My ramps have sides on them too to prevent them dropping off the sides & "bannister rails" round the edges of their "lofts" :)

Cheers all I haven't put a guard on my ramp but may get hubby to do so and around the edge of the ground floor as all the shavings seem to blow out the sides.

Hey :) I use newspaper too... maybe try having some newspaper folded up the side of your cage to make a barrier for the shavings? Just a thought :)

i dont use anything, i have the towels/polyester set up so my cage doesnt get ruined at all with stains or anything.

I use a very thick layer of newspaper, and then a layer of hay.
Also I have sometimes used (in my open cage) thick newspaper, then carpet. It seems to work for me. I just hoover/sweep the poops, and get the urine with vineger and water salution. If it starts to go horrid I just cut out a new peice.

The carpet idea is interesting I've heard a lot of people use fleece too. Yesterday I tried those wooden pellet things they aren't much cop I do use newspaper but wondered whether it would be OK to just use paper on the bottom and nothing else as they don't seem to go to the loo down there much and where they do go I put woodshavings under the paper to absorb it as well as on top.

I have used just newspaper. It can work quite well, you have to take off the top layer and replace it everyday though. And change the whole lot once a week

I use news papers too more on the corners , I make a cone like shape out of one piece and put it in corners (hope that makes sense) then hay scattered about, I have recently stopped using wood shavings as Max is scratching a bit to see if he stops although still putting a few shaving in their loo.

I line any wooden housing with lino so the wood doesnt get soggy also you could try vetbed then it wont get blown all over the place like shavings etc.

I customised the wooden floors of my hutch using stick on vinyl floor tiles so that the pee doesn't soak into the wood (99p a pack from b & q x 2). On top of that I put thick layer of newspaper and like someone else said, I fold it up the sides of the hutch to prevent the aubiose (which I put downstairs only) coming out the sides. On top of the auboise I put cheaper meadow hay. I have a willow basket downstairs which I fill daily with timothy or oat hay. Upstairs I use vetbed on top of the newspaper. My piggies only pee downstairs which is good. Works well for me!

I used to use woodshavings and found they got EVERYWHERE! They'd be little trails of woodshaving where ever you went so I changed to Megazorb instead and now don't have trails everywhere I go.

I always put down two layers of newspaper and then put a thickish layer of megazorb on the top. Everythings always soaked up and the bottom layer of newspaper is never wet when I clean out the cage. It's also using newspaper because you can roll all the bedding up in it when you clean the cage out making it much easier.

Zig zag hubby is going to get megazorb today we thought we might give it ago, he is going to get some auboise too so we can decided which is best for our gps.

I have all of a sudden changed lol... until Cindys babies are around 4 weeks I have newspaper with a towel on top :) lol weird I know! :D
