...an indoor run? I liked Bekki2308s correx 'tray' idea for a run but wondered what others did? Metal play pen type thing? Or are those fabric hexagonal type ones any good or will the pigs just eat them to bits? Trying to do it as economically as possible!
Thanks :)

I've seen someone with a paddling pool, not the ones you blow up tho the other ones!

I have one of the fabric ones. I love it but I wouldn't say it was economical! Also my piggies have already started chewing on the lining!

I have a paddling pool that cost me £1 from tescos, however its actually significantly smaller than their cage and isnt a run (its just somewhere to pop them while I clean them out!)

However I imagine you could just get a bigger one and use that.

I have a metal run that I use indoors and sometimes outdoors too. I also have a large black shallow box that they use but it isn't a proper run, just somewhere they go and chill out in between free range time. I have to be Careful what I use for my girls as they chew anything and everything

I have one of those outdoor metal runs shown in an octagon shape, but I find it works equally well inside and it can actually be set up into any shape as each panel is separate and can be joined any which way.

I also have the foldout fabric playpen but it is not very big so I tend to use it as a temporary travel playpen.

When I am doing my weekly complete cage cleaning I pop the boys into the bathroom (door shut) with a bunch of tunnels and hideys, and dot vegies all over the floor. As I have a 2nd toilet and shower area it does not inconvenience the humans.

I don't use anything in particular. I just let my two little princesses just run around at the back part of my house which is slate. If you don't have a openly accessile part for your piggies, you could use the pet runs that you get from a pet store. Also, when the piggies go outside, I have made a playpen that consists of a strong wooden frame and small chick wire over lapped so nothing can get in nor out. Hope this was of some help.

Hi there :-)

Its 6x2 ft my cage and that was 11 for the sheet and 10 for standard postage , you can get puppy pens the same size for 30 or you can use a hallway or safe room in your house :-)

If it's for indoors and you have somewhere for it to always be in place, you are fine - if not, then this is probably useless lol.
A full size wardrobe - pick up from a charity shop or from your local free-cycle. Take off doors with screw driver - back will pop off very easily. Make sure there is no pins sticking out and voila - a ready made run which is quite a size.

I have a roll of carpet I put down the hallway, close the doors and voila!

When they're finished, I clean the mess, roll up the carpet and no one needs to know...

I use C & C grids, the mesh ones from JTF Warehouse for less than a tenner, pop a fleece on the floor & make the run up with the grids & connectors, it makes a huge cheap run. It wouldn't suit someone with dogs or cats or small children though in case they got in it!

Wow thanks for all the idea everyone...keep 'them coming ;)

I can't use the hall as there are three rooms off it and one room doesn't have a door and there's another where the door doesn't shut properly (these things will be rectified over time but it's all part I an ongoing, slow renovation!), haven't room for a permanent run to be down so I'm afraid the wardrobe idea is out! Need something that's fairly easy to set up and fold back down or in the case of bekki's tray I could perhaps store it upright in the understands cupboard or garage. The metal pens sound good but aren't they quite expensive? Any links to good ones would be great ;)
Any more suggestions? Thanks ;)

That should read understairs cupboard...iPhone just loves to think its right all the time in correcting me!

I use the tray as my actual cage, its a great size for 2-3 pigs but could fit 4 :-) if you have a conservatory or room with link/laminate floor they can just free range :-) runs should be bigger than their cage so for me that means a huge run so I let them run free instead :-)

No the metal grids are cheap if you get them from here:

Depends if you have one near you? Whereabouts are you near? I'm cleaning mine out tomorrow so will take a pic of my run when it's set up if you like.

If not what about a child's stairgate with the bottom blocked off so they can't get through the bars?

I have 2 Trixie Joy runs from Amazon joined together & secured with cable ties to make it a permanent fixture. I would say theres at least 1.5 times the running space that they have in the cage.

Oooh thanks everyone :)

We only have a ferplast 120 bekki2308 so the tray would be a good size for them to run around in I think if we made one of those. It's just about storing it when not in use. I could easily put them in it for several hours a day possibly for as long as 9.30 til 2.30 if I was home all day (works around school runs then ;))

The trixie joy runs look quite good - do you mean two of these....?

Suppose they aren't too expensive and you can connect them up how you like?

Yes the grids would be a good option if cheap at JTF. Had never heard of it before but yes we do have one down the road in Preston! How many do you get for a tenner?

I don't know whether I could do completely free range as there's a lot of places where they could go that I'd find it difficult to catch them and I'd be panicky about wires and clearing up all the poo!

Ps would love to see a pic of your run Poppy'smum when it's ready please :)

I bought a pop up ball pit for my girls, but Miss Mabel has eaten a piggie sized hole in it! I also have:
run1.jpg

I got 2 packs to make a run this size :)

That looks good :) how sturdy is it, could the guinea pigs knock it down?!

For indoor have you looked at the shoe rack system as it allows you to built your own run to suit you - however it takes time and is a pain to put away. I wouldn't use a paddling pool as if your pig chews it it could get stuck in the intestines causing blockage - it also wouldn't show on xray just gassy guts and would be fatal. Just thought I mention it!

Thanks :) does it go up in any other shape or just circular? And presumably its talk enough for a guinea pig not to get over? It's hard to tell on the pics on the zooplus website as there's a hamster in the own instead!

Oh and how big is it when you have two runs attached together? Thanks :)

You get 13 grids I think. I have two packs as I am greedy :)) They are called "Homemaker Lifestyle mesh storage cubes" They come in silver or pink. They were about £9 including VAT. With 13 you can make a 6 x 2 pen for them to run around in or a big C & C cage for them to live in permanently, plenty of space for 2 rolleyes

Ooh that does sound interesting :) can they be put up and down/together easily or would it not be something that I could construct/deconstruct every day? Sounds a bargain though £9 for a 6x2 run! And I could get pink as we are getting girls lol!

I just leave some linked up by the connectors, so I just connect up the corners etc when I want a run up. I have one of those octagonal pens that pop up but to be honest it's a bit of a pain to fold away, I can't seem to get the knack of it plus they started chewing the plastic inside :... I'll take some pics of what I mean & try to upload them tomorrow for you rolleyes
