hi, I'm gonna be finishing my work on my outdoor hutch tomorrow I'll be getting it insulated and draft free.
I'm getting meadow hay for bedding and for eating hay
Nail clippers
Drinking bottles
Pellet food
Food trays

I am new and I've been reading through stuff and this seems like all the important stuff and I'll be getting 2 guinea pigs, would I need anything else. I'm just wondering is good to buy the harnesses for guinea pigs just to bring them to and back of the house?

Hi
First aid kit,
bottle cleaner brush including sterilising fluid
Food storage container
Dust Pan & brush
Bedding of your choice
Tunnels, cardboard boxes
Fleece for bedding and cuddle times.
Snugglesafe
Waterproof cover
Cover for water bottle to stop it freezing.
Weigh scales and book for recording weights & date of any treatments, vet visit, diagnosis etc.

It's a NO for the harness, your better using a box or pet carrier case.

Of course if you're like many of us, you get the main essentials and then you end up with a room full of stuff. (said the woman whose just cleared out their medical box and tided it up and realised how much I actually have! - oopsie)

What do you mean by first aid? I don't understand
And what's bottle cleaning fluid, I thought u cleaned it with disinfectant mixed with water 1:10 ratio I was told or to give it a hot bath
What's a snuggle safe?

First aid kit in case of emergencies, here's the link

You can bottle cleaner brushes so they reach the end of the bottle and around the areas needed. After washing, sterilising fluid like Milton is good practice.
A snugglesafe is a microwaveable hard plastic disc with a fleece cover. You heat it up and place the cover on the snuggle safe and it keeps your piggies warm for many hours.

I recommend Timothy Hay for the hay racks and have some Meadow Hay for the ground as it's cheaper to buy, but Timothy Hay is better for them to eat. Avoid Alfalfa Hay as it's high in calcium, which is bad for piggies. They shouldn't have a harness as guinea pigs are skittish and if they're scared and cannot run (due to the harness restricting their movement) it will stress them out. I suggest feeding them an eighth cup of pellets in the morning and night, don't give them a muesli mix as it can cause selective eating, which in turn will cause obesity and poor healthy due to lack of nutrients. Also give a cup of veggies a day (no more), in the winter it's important for them to eat veggies to make up for the lack of grass intake. (in the summer, if they do not have a run then continue giving them veggies to make up for it) You can give them toys too, but read the toys forum made on here (there is a newbie guide and stuff in the new and wannabe category of forums)
Welcome to the forum and the guinea pig family :)

Plenty of good advice above, but just to reiterate - harnesses are an absolute no. They can damage piggies' spines.

Definitely NO harnesses - guinea pigs don't have the flexible spines that ferrets have and can injure themselves badly. It is just one of those shop gimmicks to make sales without any thought of welfare for the poor animals involved, like hamster wheels for guinea pigs. :(
