What filter jugs do we recommend?

I’m not overly impressed with my supermarket filter jug for filtering piggie water, and I can never find the right cartridges for it!

What filter jobs do people use and recommend? I’ve been looking at Brita ones, but there’s lots of different types.

We have the standard Brita Marela and have been very happy with it.
My MIL has the Brita Flow and this is also a good choice if you need to filter a large amount of water.
We only use it for the animals, so the Marela works fine for us.

I have a Brita filter jug. Not sure which one it is as I've had it for ages. It uses the Maxtra cartridges. I'm very happy with it. It doesn't fur up the kettle and I live in a very hard water area.

Thank you 😊 we are also hard water x

Your location is Greater Manchester... do you know how hard your tap water actually is? I ask because Manchester City itself has soft water (I've never had a bad cup of tea in Manchester!) If you google you'll get the answer for your area either in parts per million (ppm) or mg/L which is the same thing. If you have soft water you might not need to filter at all.
We have ferociously hard water between 300 and 400 ppm so I use a Scottish bottled water for my piggies which is 3. Quite a difference!

I googled it as I’m on the outskirts of Manchester (Whitefield) and apparently it’s a lot harder?

I'm not convinced Whitefield has hard water. All or most of Manchester water comes from the lake district and is soft.

I was concerned about Max's calcium intake as he leaves deposits on the fleece and asked the vet in Chorlton whether I should filter the water and he said no because the water is so soft. Does your kettle fur up?

No? Maybe what I read was wrong? I’ve just been filtering water anyway, as a precaution? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've just looked up my water hardness at my water companies website and it has come up with this (pic below, I live in sevenoaks, Kent).
When I first got my guinea pigs I didn't filter my water and I had lots of white deposits on their fleece then I found this forum and started filtering their (and all my other pets) water and I don't have the white deposits anymore.
The filter I have is an old one (about 4 years old) I found in my cupboard that takes the rectangular cartridge which were also sealed in individual bags in the cupboard!
