Hey
I'm a new member I got my first guinea pig yesterday from claire at guineawigs rescue. I did post an introduction last night but I dont know if I did it right as I cant find it now lol oops.

So I dont know whether this question has been asked before, What attracted you to having a guinea pig in the first place?

I grew up with them and missed them afterwards...

Pretty much the same for me as well, had them as pets when I was young and within a month of buying our own house me and Steven got 2.

I actually didn't have piggies as a child. Me and the OH had kept mice for a few years, but decided we also wanted some larger pets suitable for keeping indoors. We looked into indoor bunnies, but eventually decided on piggies. I had absolutely no knowledge of them, but thought they looked cute. I also thought, wrongly, that vets wouldn't class them as exotic animals in the way they did mice! rolleyes This was 9 years ago now.

I first had piggies when I was a child because I'm allergic to cats and dogs and my mum doesn't like hamsters / gerbils / mice beacuse they're so small so piggies where the perfect pets for us.
We adpoted our current piggies a couple of years ago. (I'm now 31) I did a deal with my OH. I was desperate for piggies and he wanted fish (which I don't like) so we agreed we'd get both! Funnily enough we've no fish left and he's fallen in love with the piggies just as much as me. Spike's such a daddies boy! I often come home from work and find them snuggled up together asleep on the sofa.

I just loved their lillte chatter. Their sqeeks and chuntering is soo cute :))

About this time last year I was quite ill, so my parents (who would never have let me have a pet normally) decided to let me get something small and managable that I could take care of ... a kind of project.
So I did some research and eventually decided that guinea pigs were best.

Of course, now I know that they are not small or managable! Lol. :))

I loved their expressions, their sounds and the way they could be cuddled and stroked easily - the way they actually enjoy the human they own and build up a good master/slave relationship. I have been their slave for some years now....

I too used to have guinea pigs when I was younger. I've always loved them for their sweet nature and their dumpy little bodies. The way they waddle around with their cute little teddy bear faces, it makes me smile just thinking about them!

I had guinea pigs as a child too and very fond memories. They seemed the perfect choice for me now (once I realised they could live indoors quite happily) and besides I lurve piggy ears... drool

we looked after a friends guinea pig when he went away on holiday ( i was about 21 ) missed having the little guy around when he went back so we left it a while and then got our own when we was sure we wasn't just missing the other piggy. I had never ever met a guinea pig before that... all them waisted years lol :D

well what couldn't attract you! they are sooo adorable! its manly because my mum grew up with them and then she got some for my sisters and then she got one for me(I'm ten) and there is absolutely nothing that you can't like a bout them they are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute and adorable and playful!x)xoxox)xoxox)xoxo:)):))

hehe!

My parents got me a rabbit and a guinea pig when I was two, and I've always had them since! I love how their chatter, and I love how they munch poop, munch poop, munch poop all day long :)

We saw a herd when we were away on holiday and after much persuasion my OH gave in and let me get two to bring home. Once we had them here they soon won my heart and we have just got more and more over the last couple of years. They are so entertaining and fun to own, I love their chatting and in fact everything about them!

Like Debbie-Ann, we minded a friends ginnys a couple of years back and fell in love x) we got our own shortly after the guests went back to their mummy and have had ginnys ever since. Now also doing occasional fostering for NSGPR and find it so rewarding to give a poor unwanted ginny some tlc and loving handling ^)

My parents also kept guinea pigs when I was growing up, As soon as I left home I began keeping them again and at one point had 6 living in my front room!

I wanted pets, no time for a dog (three walkies a day is hard to fit in when you work), allergic to cats and wanted something more social than fish or budgies. I love the way they talk, it's one of the best things with piggies!

I had them as a child but don't really remember anything about them, guess my mother looked after them all the time. When I was 18-19 I moved into a new place, visited the pet shop and saw two there that I wanted, took them home and it went from there. I now own 16; 11 boars and 5 sows, so yeah it's grown lol

I had them as a child but kind of forgot how cute they were. Visited friends and fell in love with theirs and ambused my hubby to get a couple. Now I am obsessed with them drool I foster too which fulfils my greed for piggie lips and piggie ears and piggie feet!

I now have three - two sows and a neutered boar.

My mum took in two elderly gents who were ex breeding boars when they were 7 as the local rescue place said they would just pts as they were too old, we had them for two years, but i was insanely in love with my bunnies then! Have got into guinea pigs properly after moving in with my oh and being ill and wanted something to keep me company and i like the fact they wheek back!

I love them

I had them as a child into my teens then it faded away with living a busy life, marriage, children etc as we all do,it started again Nov 2008 through divine intervention ... two piggies sweetie and lily.
Well what can i say really except when you are at a low ebb God works in mysterious and loving ways.My story of the last 4 years is long ! so i will just say he answered a prayer and sent them to me,it lifted me up out of depression and they have given me a new lease of life.I thank him EVERY day for their little faces, whisker kisses and the immense joy they bring to my life and my familys ..i am complete again.

Hi,

I've never owned guinea pigs as a child and never had any inclination for having one either. It was only since my son fancied having one or two that we came across the ones we have now by adopting them. I don't regret it one little bit. I've really fallen in love with them. :)

my other half wanted piggies, I didn't.

He pointed them out in pet shops - i wasn't interested.

He found cute pictures on the net - still wasn't interested.

Repeated al of the above lots, and one day we saw Punky in a pet shop. He was a black and rust absynian, with wonky eyes and bad cateracts, the shop owner said he was the last one in the shop. His siblings were snapped up cos they were supercute. Nobody wanted him cos he was the runt of the litter.
So Punkys came with us to the pet shop at the other side of town, where We spotted Garfield, a tired looked baby maker in a very dodgy pet shop.

That was three years ago! We have 12 piggies now, and have had as many as 15. Garfield is still with us, although she is a special care piggy now.

And guess who the obsessive is now? Its me, :red
