Hello I'm a new guinea pig owner and i'm wondering what exactly to give him. He is a moth and a half old (born December 1st)
I saw some where you can give them carrots but they said there bad for them and they should be spreaded out. but can i please have some help on this?😊

Hello and welcome to the forum

Congratulations on your new piggie. Your piggie is very young (where did you get him from?). Piggies should have a varied diet of veggies but mostly hay which they should have in abundance. There are lots of guides on here (including forbidden foods) so please have a read. A good place to start is here:

Wannabe, New Owners & Childrens' Pets Guides

What I would say is that piggies are not solitary animals and should be with their own kind so he really should have a companion. I would do this sooner rather than later.

If you have any pics to share that would be lovely and also his name?

Feel free to ask questions- its great you have reached out & joined the forum 😊

He needs to eat hay - and lots of it, it needs to make up the biggest portion of their diet. You also need to slowly introduce some vegetables. Do it slowly so as to not cause tummy upsets. Please don’t give carrots very often - they are too high in sugar and should only ever be regarded as an occasional treat. You can also give a small amount of guinea pig pellets. I’ve added guides in below which give details of how to feed them. I’ve also added some new owner information. Please read these guides, they contain a lot of helpful information.

As mentioned above, guinea pigs are highly social herd animals and need to be kept in pairs to prevent loneliness. they must never be alone, particularly with your piggy being so young, he absolutely needs another Guinea pig as a companion. With your piggy being Male, he can live with one other Male guinea pig.
