What hay for my guinea pigs?

White powder left behind can be normal if its only dusty and not clumpy or gritty. Try a different brand of nuggets, but introduce with a mix of old and new. Is he eating hay as normal?
Yes everything else is normal - he recently has been treated for lice. Not that it has anything to do with it. - he also may have lost a slight bit of weight. I may book a vet appointment today

It's good that you have got a vet appointment if you have any concerns about a piggies health, however I would not be too concerned about loss of appetite towards pellets, they are a measly part of a pigs diet and some people choose to not feed them at all... obviously you know your pig best and if this is completely out the blue there may be an underlying issue. White deposits in urine are a sign of too much calcium in their diet, this could even come from the water depending on if you have hard water in your area or not. The most important thing you can do is weigh your pigs regularly (weekly) to gather an understanding of each pigs healthy weight, and then if there is ever significant gain or loss within a week period, this is something to be concerned about. But as said previously, any concern is sometimes best put to rest by seeking veterinary advice 😊
Thank you so much. - I will be making an appointment today he just doesn't seem himself. - I think he may have lost a little weight. - can you recommend any scales I can purchase as I don't have any. Thanks

Well i had a boar that peed white powder for the 5 years i had him. No stones ever found, and he had an xray once for arthiritis and nothing showed up then ,but take him to get looked at if your worried 👍

If you do have concerns it's always to be better safe than sorry. And these are the scales I have however they are currently unavailable SaaGiio Kitchen Scale, Digital... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0763BVP6C?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
If you get a type like these ones I just place a kitchen bowl which is used for the pigs on top, reset the weight, then place the pig inside. However my Honey just sits on them 🤣

But any regular kitchen scales will do the job, as long as they weigh up to around 1.5kg I would say. Definitely a good idea to get into the habit of regular weighing, I learnt this the hard way with an old piggy and it ended up being too late, make it part of the cage clean routine I find helps to remember when I've done it...

Yes it did, and it's amazing!😊 The meadow hay is really green, as is the timothy. The girls are having the meadow hay at the moment and get so excited about it! I'll take some more photos of it today. Here is Poppy sat in the box it came in!

Thanks for that......wonders off to go and order a box for next week.....:coat:.......:own:

I buy the five a day hay from the range for eating, I use their big bags of dust extracted hay for bedding.
