What hay do you give your guineas... i read that timothy hay is the best and healthiest is this right? Ive bought just a ordinary bag of hay from my local garden centre..they love it but i want to know that its the best i can give them? Any suggestions?/?/

I give both timothy hay and a mix of good quality meadow or orchard hays.
But I'm not one of the connaisseurs on here!

I just usually buy P@H Timothy Hay - mine really like it.

For a special treat they love Burgess Excel Fresh Herbage with Dandelion and Marigold.

I just bought Burgess Excel Fresh Forage as it was on offer, and they are eating it - but it isn't Timothy Hay and they prefer that with the bits with 'ears' on IYKWIM

The main difference you want to be aware of is legume hays and grass hays. Legume hays - in particular alfalfa - are very rich in nutrients like calcium and protein and are to be limited in pigs over the age of around 6 months.

Grass hays are the good all-rounder hays, good for pigs of all ages. Different types of grass hays include:

- Meadow
- Timothy
- Orchard Grass
- Oat
- Brome
- Rye

And of course there are dried grasses such as Readigrass/Just Grass, which are usually heat-treated (dried) so lock in all the nutrients - unlike hays which are left ot dry naturally and tend to lose most of their nutrients.
