I was stroking one of the new piggies & felt something rough in her fur. Thinking it was a piece of hay I looked at it & gently tried to pull it, eventually it came away, but whatever it was actually went into her skin, & as I pulled it kept coming :)>>> it looks like a long strand of something, not hair like at all? There is a little slightly bald spot on her back where it came from, I am thinking maybe it was a scar that didn't heal properly & this was "growing" inside?

I won't be taking her to the vet as it isn't bleeding or anything, could it have been an ingrowing hair? It's very weird, I've never seen anything like it rolleyes
Sorry the pic is awful, I was trying to get a close up pic & the camera didn't like it at all. The dark bit to the left is how much was poking up on the surface, the stringy orange bit on the right is what was underneath the skin surface (yes really!) I did feel bad about pulling it out but it must have been uncomfortable for her, it's definitely not hair or a parasite of any kind. Any ideas?

Could it possibly be a grass or hay seed thats hooked its way into the skin, pretty common at this time of year in dogs and horses etc, so i would assume a piggy could get a seed burrowed in somewhere @)

HAve you a further away shot?

Looks a bit like a grass seed, they get imbedded into the skin of longer haired dogs in the summer time, i see it very often during the summer months.

I hope she feels better soon.

Looks like a grass seed to me - they are a nightmare for getting stuck in under the skin.

{:| you beat me to it!

Urgh poor thing! I was wondering if it was but couldn't believe the length of the "root" which made me query it! Thanks, should I put any cream on the little hole left? It is very tiny, just a little black dot on the skin so I don't think there is any chance of infection, but will monitor it in case :)

I could try to take another photo further away but it is very tiny, not sure you could see it then :))

if you have some antisceptic wash, i'd give a clean with that, and cut the hair arund the hole. Other than that , as long as it doesn't get *****, red , inflamed or smelly i'd leave nature to it.
The long bits will have literally been the roots, hay and grass seeds can germinate anywhere thats warm and moist, so a seed in a piggy , yep indeed! :...
