Hey Guys,

Ginger has been fine since his neuter two weeks ago but when i got him out for a morning cuddle i noticed this...

DSCF7286.webp

Me and my mum gave it a gentle clean with some warm water and cotton wool, we hoped it would be okay but I've just checked on him at it's still stuck out although it is a lot cleaner just pink. There is no lumps around it and nothing stuck within it, I do check him daily and sometimes he has had a bit of hay stuck which we have gently eased out and cleaned him up but nothing like this before and it wasn't like this yesterday.

He's acting completely fine eating and drinking and doing his business with no difficulty... and running his usual laps.

But should i get him to the vet, what's wrong with it, will it go back to normal?

Very worried, he doesn't seem in pain with it or run down.

Thanks in Advance!

I could be wrong but it looks like a prolapse, I am just trying to find some more info for you, bare with me......

Thanks toffeewoffee, I just googled guinea pig prolapse willy and put it in the search box on here but i can't seem to find much on it, do you think i should get him to vet?

I cant either, and have been trying to look on Guinea Lynx too but cant seem to find anything, I think if you are in doubt then yes I would see a vet ASAP, Try not to panic, it could be something of nothing, but a proper diagnosis will put your mind at ease. Good luck xx

Thank you, I'll make an appointment as soon as i can at the same vet who did his neuter.

I hope he'll be okay, thanks for your help x

Sorry, i dont feel i have been any help really, and i dont want you to worry. x

It looks like a little prolapse, which can be easily fixed with a little stitch! ;)

Thanks so much Wiebke, it's so bizarre his 'bits' we're completely fine last night, god knows what he got up to when i was asleep! LOL

I'll get him to vet and hopefully she'll help him out, poor little boy he's been in wars in the last couple of weeks.

I you are lucky, they have just got stuck outside and will go back in on their own again! ;)

Fingers crossed but I'll be taking him to vet anyway, Just phoned them, i want to him to be seen by the same vet and she's back from her holiday on Friday or should i get him there before and seen by someone else?

Its only Tuesday, i would have him seen by someone else to be on the safe side. x

I had a hamster who used to do this, every day he required his bits putting back a little KY jelly did the trick ... he was a 3.5 year old syrian who was otherwise happy so I was quite happy to do it far too old for GA! I dont suggest you do that now if you dont know what you are doing but if it turns into an occasional thing it may be possible to remedy without the need for a GA :-)

Hey guys,

The vet doesn't have any appointments tonight but I've got one for tomo evening at 6oclock after i finish work, I felt like such a prat when i first phoned them and she asked what was wrong and I replied, "his willy is hanging out he and it looks a bit swollen and we had him neutered two weeks ago" haha I'm sure i could have phrased that better, she laughed and replied he hasn't been reading naughty magazine has he, i had a duck who kept doing that once!

I've changed his bedding out and he's on a towel, and we'll make sure he's clean throughout today and in the morning.

Thanks for all your advice and I'm going to hope for the best!

:)

Thanks Bekki, after his last GA I'd rather he didn't go through another one, he's wasn't too good with recovery!

Wait and see what the vet says, :)

HAHAHAHAHA

I come bearing good news...

So got home from work and checked ginger and it still looked the same, so got his carrier ready and set off to the vets.

Our appointment was a 6 but a cat came in that had a heart attack so i let him be seen first.

Anyho when we eventually got seen, Rosario got ginger out his carrier and his willy looked completely normal...

I said "Honestly is has been stuck out for a all day yesterday and today", she laughed and said it's okay we'll check him over anyway.

She she extended his willy and said it was very clean and didn't look like it was infected, we put him back in the carrier and got him out in five minutes times and it still looked normal.

She had a feel of his belly to make sure his bladder was empty and that he was urinating fine and weighed him.

She thinks, that because he lives closely to 5 girls in a cage next door that he got far too excited and he couldn't get it back in, we've been told to keep a close in on it for the next few days and if it comes out again to try and get him there the same day so she can see it.

I couldn't believe it! :))

My piggie was wincing the other day so i took him out to see what was wrong only to find he had stuck his fully extended willy to his tummy which was glued on, it could only be freed by bathing the silly boy !

Aww poor boy, I'm glad you managed to help him and it wasn't anything serious! :)

I've checked Ginger again this evening and his little problem is still fixed so fingers crossed he'll stay that way!
