hi ,can anyone suggest how i can make safe toys for my 7 piggies .They used to have cardboard boxes as houses and loo roll middles to play with but i read that the glue and printing can harm them .I buy thhose chewy tubes from wilkinsons which they love but would like to give them more fun .If i make litle sleeping babs from old jeans what can i use to make them stay open at one end ,also any ideas to make pop up tents please

I'm scared of giving them something that can harm them but they need more fun .

If you fold the sleeping bag opening over that can help it or you can use rigilene boning, it would be more comfy for piggies if you line it with fleece, i bought a pop up tent and it comes open in the waching machine and wears away at the edges,

you can get some ideas from my shop www.guineapigcomforts.weebly.com
and Audioheart makes pyramid beds (like a tent) http://www.thimbellina.com/

Cardboard boxes and loo rolls are still some of the safest play things - just remember, even chewing tubes have glue in!

Alternatively, order some paper bags from the ebay to fill with hay or veg. If you order ones with handles, you need to cut through the handles.

Otherwise, old rags and otwels of any sort make good toys, either thrown to the ground in a heap draped over a chube or pegged to the sides.

Yes i cut down wine boxes, you can make some low and some full height, then you could stuff some with hay, or leave them to hide under....... what ever you do i'm sure they'll make them to what they want ;):(|)
Do please look at the links you've been given there's some great cosies/tents/etc that two of our wonderful members make x)x)

i also find that a sheet of newspaper sat like a tent makes a great thing to run through/eat etc :)

I recently made a 'toy' out of an old fleece top and its proved to be a big hit!

I cut out the zip and elastic pull things (remove anything they can eat or hurt themselves on). Then cut the sleeves short, then put two large tubes in each arm so that they have easy access. They love running through each of the tubes then sleeping in the bit in the middle where our bodies would go! They also love bouncing on top of it, especially if one is asleep underneath! :)) It will need regular washing but they love it and its very very cosy!

When they're out running mine love (well after the ironing board) a piece of card folded and a blanket over it like a tent, they like to run through it or be bossy and throw it everywhere :))

My boys have cardboard rolls from selotape to throw around (without the selotape) they like nudging them and picking them up with their teeth and flinging them. I got them a plastic ball from wilkinsons from the pet bit where you get the chew tubes from, it has a jingle in the middle, I find they put that in the strangest of places and I can't even figure out how they did it most of the time!

Oh and thin cardboard like you get in bed sheet packaging or with shirts, I roll that up and tape it together and they like to run through it and then try and clamber on it and squish it, it doesn't last very long but they seem to get alot of fun out of it :))

I'd just like to sat, if you do use fabric make sure there are no loose threads or frayed bits, someone made a hammock out of a tea towel and their piggie got wrapped up in it and suffocated:(

i bought some shoe laces and made holes in some treats like carrots and threadded it through and attached it to their house they loved that !

Some amazing ideas :) love the fleece top idea with tubes in the sleeves...might be stealing that one! :))

Another quick one is a sheet of newspaper screwed up with their favourite treats inside - they'll have to drag it around and work out how to get the treats out :) it will only last five minutes or so (depending on how quickly they work it out...!) but its a bit of stimulation.

I made my own little cozies when I first had my boys, but they quickly outgrew them! I bought some lovely cozy beds made by a member on here which are fab and still going strong :)
