Adult Guinea Pig
I know, in all of the threads I reply in regarding overweight piggies I state that it is rare to get one so fat that it might be really bad for them. However, I believe I have one such piggy. Munchie is the boss of my 9 strong herd and she has been slowly gaining weight over the last few months. I have been in Holland for the last 2 weeks and to say that she has put some more on is an understatement. This guinea pig is fat. She is about 15/16 months old now and must weigh (I shall weigh tomorrow for an accurate reading) 1.4kilos at least; possibly even 1.5 now. She weighed 1kilo in May/June when she went to the vets for her abscesses, 1.3 before I left for Holland a few weeks ago and now she is just huge. She's not struggling to move yet, but she's one seriously chunky lady!
I am going to cut the pellets down now as the only reason I had not done so earlier is because I had a severely underweight piggy in the herd, but she looks 100% better now than she did before I left. I was wondering if there's anything else I can do apart from that. They don't get many pellets between them anyway (2 bowls for 9 pigs) so whether she's just munching through them all or not I have no idea. They will have their new shed too soon with tons more exercise space so hopefully she'll slim down a bit then.
Is there anything else you can suggest that I do? Veggies to cut out or other alternatives?
