I have two cages which get cleaned out twice weekly and each time I clean out I end up with a bin bag full per cage. That's 8 bags in two weeks my wheelie bin only gets collected every two weeks and gets really full. It's getting to the point now where I have a bag or two waiting to go into the bin on bin day it's a nightmare!

I use megazorb so it is compostable but my composter is also full to the brim arghh!

How does anyone else get rid of their waste?

I have to take mine to the tip... and it's A LOT for all my piggies (30 -40 here usually).

Some places will take it for compost, but when I rang the local authority my nearest place was an hour away.

Some people put it on muck heaps (at stables) and some get it taken away for compost by keen gardeners!

I go to the tip once a week. In theory you are only allowed a bag a week of animal waste to the tip!

I have rather a lot of cages and hutches too, as you have seen Briony. O/H takes the rubbish to the tip once a week. The odd one goes in the bin though. Pity we can't turn it into electricity or something, I could run my heating off it! xx

Our tip gives away the big green garden waste bags, so when the grass is mown the cleanings out go on the bottom and the grass on the top. My composter is full too.

Next year we're getting brown bins so I can think of a few ways to fill it, just hoping it's emptied every week.;)

mine goes into a wheelie bins for garden waste and is collected every other week, its a good job i dont have to put it in with the other rubbish as i fill 1 bin per week :)

I've just ordered a second bin from the council - we have green bins here for garden waste so I put hay in that {:|

My local council accepts newspaper, hay and piggie waste in the compost bins - may be worth asking if any of your bedding can go in your council- collected compost?

I don't even bed on any traditional beddings, I only used to clean out the hay trays every day or every second day and I'd have two bags full a week. Many trips to the local tip were due to the pigs waste, I can sympathise on how frustrating it is!

I might check we do have a compost bin but they are very fussy about what goes in it. once they refused to empty it as it was heavy and they accused me of putting soil in it when really I had just chopped down a million huge grass type plants so they were very compact and heavy! rolleyes

We have the same problem except our green bin only gets collected once a month now (down from twice monthly) so we have loads of bin bags waiting for collection.
I don't know if our tip has a limit on how much animal waste you can take to the tip. I hope it's not one bag as we're off down there on Saturday with all ours!

Best tell them it's rabbit waste if they ask - guineas are counted as exotic / non-indigenous species and you have to double bag it all and put it in hazardous waste if they're strict on the rules! mallethead

Local coucil here will not accept any kind of animal waste in Wheelie bins including the compost bin ( which is charged at £80 per year ) grrrr

Local waste site also refuses any kind of hutch cleanings - also grrrr

I have to take all my guinea and bunny waste to the composting facility - only 15 mins drive but does make me wonder what I pay my council tax for ?

That is thr same with our council. We ordered a brown bin thinking we could put hay in it (after all, it's only grass) but was told we're only allowed to put garden waste in it grrrr

We have a rather big and I mean BIG Muck heap that all the horse, goat, poultry and GP waste goes on and we have a system where we keep extending it so that one end is fully rotted down and the other end is fresh

Well I suppose that's one way to keep tourists out Graham :(|) :(|)

After reading the above I must consider myself lucky where I live.

I put out up to 10 full bags of piggy waste every 2 weeks. Its soiled newspaper with hay and dropping - all in one.

My bin men take the lot. I look out the window every time with trepidation to see if they`ve taken the bags and they always do. One day it`ll stop for sure.

thats good to know in advance as i am about to ask the council for a second bin as i hear they are offering the new re cycle bin for garden waste

alternatively spread the bedding out on your patio on a hot day

pick out the poo by hand and re use the best bits

cuts down waste no end
