Hi you, just wondered if anyone knows if I can make some play things out of old pallets or is the wood to rough for piggies?

also

What can you use to weather proof wood thats piggie safe?

cheers

I'm wanting to build things for my piggies such as houses, bridges, tunnels ect.
I'm not sure what wood to use.
Someone else will proberbley tell you in a couple of minutes.

You may find that the wood is too rough for the piggies - especially as they will inevitably gnaw on it and can injure themselves with sharp splinters. You also have to make sure that the wood has not been treated with chemicals.

But you can always use it for the construction of perhaps a platform on stilts to get a sleep in the shade in summer.

yes I was wondering about the splinter thing? not sure if pallets are treated with anything?

If you have a sander then the splinter thing wouldn't be a problem, they proberbly are treated though to stop them rotting.

on this photo you can see a little house it's at the back on the second level! It's made from thick ply wood! My guinea pigs haven't chewed at it at all!

like the hide out / house. think ply would be easyer to use too. love the different levels with ramps etc.

Yes I will try sanding them at the weekend and see if it helps.

with plywood it doesn't really need much sanding, just the edges!

when making the house.....make the walls fit under the edge of the roof!
