Anybody know how much it costs to have a boar neutered? I was going to ring around some vets but they are always like...would you like me to book that in for you? Lol

I think mine was £60 all in. Post op check included. And pre op but I don't remember if I had to pay a consultation. I probably did though. So altogether about £95 maybe. It's pretty cheap to be fair. Make sure a good experienced vet does it though

That's more than I thought it would be lol 😳😩I can get my dog neutered for £35 with the dogs trust Haha.

Ours was about £65 and included a pre-op health check and 2 post-op checks. Often neutering is subsidised so it can be fairly cheap. Just a normal vet check can be £20 or £30 and the anaesthetic drugs for many operations £100 to £150 so neutering is usually very reasonably priced considering.

I think mine was probably 60 all in then, I probably got charged 60 after my boar got health checked and then got an agreed date to be neutered. He didn't need any meds either afterwards.

My sows spay was pretty much 200

Also sometimes the bigger the animal the easier the op - less fiddly, and things like anesthetics tend to be easier too.

my exotic vet charges approx £120,that includes an overnight stay.ive had 15 boars neutered,no problems.so it is peace of mind.

But do they have overnight vet nurses, otherwise I don't agree with an overnight stay, I see it as added stress. I'm not being a stuck up git lol. Just my opinion 🙂

Yes they have highly trained exotic vet nurses.the observation period is to ensure that there are no immediate complications post op.the hospital has different sections for just guinea pigs.also two highly trained exotic vets are usually rota for oncall emergency alternate weeks.step in with syringe feeding.i agree it could be stressful, but this is a high tec vets ! easier for myself as collect the next day if all is well.

I think an overnight stay might be beneficial if they are a lone piggy with no pig friends to come home to, to get overnight syringe feeds and monitoring- but we wanted Theo straight home because his next door wives-in-waiting were very upset when he went away for a day! Puggle lost more weight than Theo after his neutering op, worrying about her beloved fiance... Theo is quite chilled but his favourite (or most intense) wife Lady Puggle is a fussy little who fusses a lot :)

Fair play, sounds like a decent place 👍

It's probably because I have only ever had one neutered pig. And all went well. So I'm not experienced with any complications.

The exotic vets I use have a vet monitoring the overnight animals. He phones you in the morning around 7am as he goes off duty to give you a report as to how the animal has been overnight. It costs £35 for an overnight stay but is well worth it for peace of mind after an operation.

Pretty sure mines was about £55-60. Also a health check for a pig at my vets I think is £15

The last boar I had neutered cost around £60 but that was a few years back and a different vet practice to what I use now. The last two boars I have adopted have already been neutered

It varies ,l had about 30 done over reason years ,by local vets is upto £135 that was with extra ,vet4pets is £55.
