Hi
I know I've posted a lot but i just want to do this right with my boys.
I was brushing Izzy and found a scab putting a little pressure on it to see what it was it came off.
This is the only one I found is it worms? The boys run is on concrete covered with hay.
Anyone know what this is ? View attachment 8557

Do you mean the hair loss and redness? Looks like either mange mites or fungal to me. Only a vet can diagnose properly but in the meantime, does the hair come out easily when tugged? is it greasy (i.e. when you brush the rong way does it stay upright?). Does the hair seem broken half way down the shaft?

I am assuming there is nothing crawling? If so that would indicate either hay mites or lice.

Does he seem in pain when you touch him?

He seems fine, no redness of skin at all. I've put saline on the skin where the fur has come off. Coat is soft moulting a bit. He seems better now we have seperated the two boys as they were fighting .
I'm going to take him to the vets to get checked over. The other boar has a bit of dandruff so bathed him today. I've only had the boys for 5 weeks and already dealt with quite a bit

It does sounds like fungal especially if the other boy has dandruff and there is moulting too so I would get them both checked out. I posted more on your other thread as there were more photos. In the other thread I recommended Imaverol dips if the vet diagnoses fungal.

I've booked an appointment with the vet ( one who specialists in guinea pigs and small animals) .
Cleaning izzy mouth this evening which looking better using saline twice a day and noticed a dry bloody cut to his back. I've bathed in saline a little but I didn't see this earlier. It must of been from the fight he had with his brother.
They were seperated last week and izzy seems a lot happier eating drinking fine. He'd been running around the pen today but I've bought them in tonight into the indoor run , this too is seperate .
I'm not good with cuts but this is all dried but looks quite a cut/ bite.
Shall I keep bathing with saline till tues?

No infection that I can see just suprised I missed this!
He's sitting on my 6 year old lap in a blanket watching TV at the moment . Will put a bit of sudocrem on it but poor baby been in the wars

Yes I think Sudocrem is ok if not an open wound. If it is not bothering him though then just keep bathing and wait to see the vet.

If it's mange mites then it could be where he's scratched himself, but if he has got a fungal infection I would recommend that you keep handling to a minimum & not let your children handle them at all until the vet sees him, because if it was Ringworm that is highly infectious & humans can catch it :( It may be worth taking them both along to the vets in separate carriers because the vet may want to check the other one & treat him if he also has mange mites/fungal. Good luck, let us know how you get on :)

Poppy's mum I'll have to put them in separate carriers anyway as they fight. I just hope it's nothing serious as they were fine before living together when at the shelter and at ours for month then fighting started.

How old are they? Brothers are usually OK together, but hormones can be more of a problem around 6-8 months as they mature.

They are 2.5 years old. They were fine at the shelter a bit feisty they said and were fine at ours but last two weeks it's got worse.
Marbel chasing izzy and mounting loud squeaking . Then I found cuts to their ears then it got worse with this deep cut to izzy mouth and nose also back. Izzy now has been squaring up to Marbel through the wire , bum wiggling, siding up and dragging his bum on the floor . A lot of loud teeth chattering too .
The indoor run they can't see each other unfortunately but we will have to customise it but they can smell and hear each other.

When I gently parted his fur he was jumping a bit so I left it . I bathed his mouth twice a day so will do his back then . He's eating fine and drinking (when I've seen him) . Running around much brighter now separated

I'm pleased to let you know Izzy mark on his back was a bite sustained from the fight he had with Marble. He's on the mend, the vet said both were fit And healthy and that we were doing a great job! No mites, no skin condition so I'm pleased that my boys are ok.
Thanks for your help everyone
