Hi,
Our piggy has had digestive issues recently she has had soft poops on and off for about two months, in this time we have withheld all veg, she has a cavy savvy vet who sent away her poop for testing and nothing came back on her results, she has had the pets at home nuggets all her life but after doing some research for digestive issues people recommend soy free and wheat free nuggets, is there any anyone can recommend me?, i’ve had a google but the ingredients are so confusing!, hoping the switching the pellets up may work a bit, she is currently having burgess dual care pellets mixed in but they are far too expensive to buy for her just to solely eat them any help would be amazing!, thank you :)

Rosewood Meadow Menu or the pellets from Haybox are cold pressed pellets made from grass. No grains.

Oh amazing!, just got some hay from haybox didn’t know they did pellets!, thank you :)

they can be an acquired taste for some piggies, they are very different from other brands given they are cold pressed and made purely from grass, but my piggies absolutely adore them!

oh just one thing I’ve noticed on your original post. I see you’re withholding all veg - haybox pellets aren’t fortified with vitamin c so if you aren’t giving veg then the only place your piggy will be getting vit c is from hay.

I feed my piggies the rosewood meadow menu pellets. They contain added vit C and added vit D. I don't know if the haybox pellets contain vit D too but lovely as their hay is, being dried mechanically, it won't have the same vit D levels of traditional sundried hay, so something to consider. Witholding veg is not always the answer to soft poop. Too much grain in the diet can result in an imbalance in the gut bacteria. The best food to promote the growth of the correct but bacteria is fresh grass. I would be tempted to carefully introduce very small quantities into her diet.

Personally I wouldnt get too hung up on the pellets, they form such a small part of a healthy diet. Have you tried giving a probiotic like pro-C or fibreplex to help balance the gut? Withdrawing veg is a good short-term measure to help stop soft poops, but I wouldnt keep that up for more than a few days. You should maybe avoid watery or gassy veg like lettuce or cabbage or kale, but a few stems of coriander or parsley, or a small slice of pepper, can probably be fed without causing any upset.
