I'm putting y guinea pigs outside this year. When do you think is the best time?
Also i was going to get a hutch from p@h because they sell the covers for them so they could stay in it over winter.
Has anyone had any experience with this?
Thanks
Do you mean go outside to live out there in a hutch? Well, you need to wait until it warms up etc. The biggest worries are when it's damp and cold isn't good too.
Do you need to move them outside? Personally I think piggies do much better inside but maybe you need to move them out O0
They are in my bedroom at the moment and they are taking up a lot of space. There isnt anywere else i can put them in the house because i have a cat. :-\
I know a lot of folk keep piggies indoors and from choice I probably would do, but can't, but they all live very happily in a big hutch just round from the back door, sheltered on all sides by hedge/garage/wooden gates/the house, but they do get the sun a bit from a certain angle, and they are all doing well. It's Molly's third summer, the others are younger, but all thriving. They have SOOO much bedding in there and fleecy blankets during the coldest part of the winter but it's definitely possible for them to thrive outside too.
If they've never been outside before I would wait till the middle/end of May cos we can still get frosts until then.
i kept my guinea pigs outside when i was younger. when the really cold weather started them came into the convservatory. If you can i'd keep them inside, its worth loosing a bit of space to see them all the time. If you cant is there a shed you can put them in? If not just make sure they have lots of lovely warm bedding. xx
It depends where you live
i tend to think wait until frosts are over especially if they haven't been out side before
follow when local gardeners can put out tender plants usually end of april onwards
But as it warms up maybe start puttin them out during the day and bringing them in at night
That sounds like 'hardening' off plants
I have way too much gardening skills! ;D ;D ;D
thanks for all your advice
i'm going to try and convince my mum to let them go in the kitchen but if not are thouse covers for the cages any good think there called snuggle...... somethin?
My piggies live outside in our outhouse as like you I have no room inside for them to go. Mine have lots of bedding and an old carpet around their hutch for extra warmth :smitten:
