Hi, I have briefly said a bit before about my boys not getting on but it's now clear I will have to remove one of my boars from his two brothers at some point soon, I don't want to do this but I can see lots of signs that his two brother are a bonded pair, the other is often on his own etc.
All three will mix happily at meal times, I do use two bowls in case they don't get on but they all sit around the same bowl, they all interact in the run.
Lately Oreo and fudge have been having many mild falling outs eg raising their heads and teeth chattering, Oreo will sit with pippin sometimes but fudge want join then. I have not seen any proper fighting nor have they drown blood (I give them all a once over every morning to check they are well and ok so and I do look for signs of fighting too).
The issue is, am I affecting fudge and pippins bond by keeping Oreo in the hutch with them? All three love their hutch they popcorn all over it whenever they get put back in it and many times during the day. Oreo has is favourite spot to sleep so do the other two so I don't want to up skittle them by removing him until I really have too. Will I know when it's time for me to remove him? Clearly I will do if I see them fighting.
I'm buying this cage on Friday so that I have it ready as a temporary home for Oreo. I will also find him a friend as soon as I can after I removed him, then put them both into a larger home.
Also I'm unsure if I can try bonding Oreo with a female if she's had her op? Will he be to frisky around her? I've looked into neutering him but the cost is very high where I live so after talking to my friend we think it might be best he's bonded with another male or I thought a female then if that does not work I will have to pay for him to visit the vet.

Kell.

Spayed sows are extremely rare, as a spaying op is much more invasive, risky and expensive compared to boar neutering. Spaying is mostly only done for medical reasons and there is no rescue in this country that I know of that has a sow spaying policy.

You can start contacting rescues that offer boar dating and that you can get to anytime now that you have got an idea which two brothers gel. Having Fudge there will not break the bond of the two others, but once the big hormones hit, things can become iffy.
Milhaven in Keighley, Cavy Corner in Doncaster are the rescues that you want to turn to; they both offer boar dating and are very competent.

I have the skyline maxi myself as an emergency cage. If you can afford it, I would recommend to go for a ferplast with front lifting panels instead - much easier to get wiggly piggies in and out and much easier to poo patrol and clean than the skyline.

Fab advice thank you wiebke, I will look at the ferplest too. Glad I'm not affecting the bond of the bonded two by keeping him in there with them. They were born mid April I think so they are coming up to that 6months+ stage I've heard about, so in want to get everything ready. I've had a look at my local rescues from the link above but they are all over 60 miles away, I will look the two you told me about to see how far away they are. Can I ask how boar dating works would I have to take Oreo to a rescue and leave him there for the day?
Thanks for your help, kell

Just had a look and millhaven sounds a lovely place but it's 2 and a half to 3 hours away :( I read that you can arrange boar dating which is done daily such a shame it's so far away.
The other one in Doncaster is about 1 and half's away :(
I'm unsure what I can do now other than see if a signal male comes up on here near me, risky as they may not bond. :hmm:

Hi kell have you tried contacting Lincoln rspca, they were fab with us when we adopted Wispa - no idea if they have piggies at the moment but they might be able to help, just a thought Hun :) x

They don't have males Hun, but I will contact them I think to say I'm interested if they get one in. I tried the Peterborough one too.

If you took him to a rescue they could bond them for you. Are you on The Piggy Train Facebook page?
