Nimbus has an abscess which burst around a week ago.
He was taken to the vets and I was told to keep draining the pus out and flushing with either salt water or diluted tcp twice daily.
I have been doing this and have also been covering the open wound with sudocrem to avoid infection.
I understand that the abscess needs to be kept open as they heal from the inside out and an open wound assists in the tcp/salt water entering the blood stream, thus helping to prevent infection. My question is, when do I know when to stop draining the abscess and let it heal?
It doesn't seem to be filling with pus anymore so for the past two days I haven't drained it as it doesn't feel like there is anything to drain. I've just been cleaning the wound with salt water and diluted tcp and covering with sudocrem. Does it sound like I'm doing the right thing?
Any advice would be appreciated
Thank you x
