Hi everyone, i was just wondering if anybody knew where i could get liquid vitamin c from? I've searched the net and can't find it anywhere in the uk, if i can't get hold of any could i dissolve a vit c tablet in some water? It is to give to a guinea pig not for me! :))

I'm not sure about liquid vit C but I got a powder from Galen's Garden (online) that is rich in vit c, you dissolve it in water and syringe it down them - I can't remember what it's called but if you look on their site it should show you.

I know some people have used chewable vit C tablets for pigs but I haven't tried this myself so couldn't say if it works or is safe

I've only given chewable vit C tabs. One half of a 60mg tablet into the side of the mouth (towards the back) & the piggies will happily chomp on them, but i've only given it to sick piggies. :)

As far as I'm concerned I've always used liquid vitamin C so far, 20drops of the vitamin per 250 ml water, this is the recommended dosage. I got it from a petshop, but keep in mind that I live in Greece and I don't really know if you can find such things as vitamins in petshops in ** area. Hope I helped though :)

We currently have effervercent soluable ones, they are the large tablets that are 100mg, vet said cut up into 8 pieces and dissolve 1 piece in water and syringe feed, but this dosage is for sick piggies. Buy it from your local chemist, but much easier to say it's for you rather than your piggy, lol.

I dont us it but when i brought my nero four from pets at home it came with a starter park which had liquid vit drops in maybe they sale it!

Pets at Home do a product called Pro-C Probiotic with vitamin c, fibre and probiotic that's good for sick/stressed pigs. I'm using it myself at the moment with one of my sows who's a bit under the weather, it's very good. It turns the water a dodgy green but the pigs seem to love it even more than usual so I'm persevering.

I use 500mg chewable vitamin C tablets. I prefer to crush between two spoons, mix with some soft food - perhaps some banana, then syringe feed. I don't like mixing with water as you don't know how much they've taken and also the vitamin breaks down quite quickly. For a boost I use a whole tablet but for regular use I would just use a quarter tablet.

Thanks guys I'm off out shopping today so i'll have a hunt around for some. I have the chewable vitamin C as i'm prone to colds but it has added sweetners in it so i don't really want to give anything with sweetners in

Tanya :)

If you crush the vitamin c tablet in water you will lose the strength of it. I agree with Niki. That way has worked for me too :)

Vit C Tablts which they chew are the only effective way - buying it and putting it in their water isnt any good as sunlight dissolves it.

Oxbow do a good, tasty Vit. C tablet for piggies, but it will be more expensive than regular Vit. C for humans!

Holland and Barrett do a liquid Vit C for humans. I looked everywhere for some when Joey was poorly. It helped him, although he has now passed away but he was old.

Easy to give by syringe or just dropped on moist food such as cucumber or apple.

i crush half a vitamin c tablet with a spoon and then rub a cucumber slice in it as i have to give them 2 my 2 oldest piggies pinky and perky who are 5yrs old it was recommended by the vet they eat it with no problems

Holland and Barrett also do vitamin c tablets with rosehips and also a powder that you can disolve in water, neither have any sweetners in. I have used both in the past and they are great, I dont like giving them anything with additives in.
