I am trying to price some where up that sells good quality hay in large quantities for a good price. Sick of p@h hay and it isn't good enough for some of our bunnies who have dental issues! Preferably online so I can get it delivered.

Thanks for responding xx

we go to a local farmer, we get a massive bail for £3.50.

shop around though, we used a different farmer for a while but the hay at this farmers always appears better quality.

we have saved so much money since shifting from pets at home hay, plus we are supporting the local businesses.

How do you find local farms?

have a look on yell.com and ring round, i know we are fortunate in that lincs is quite a rural area but have just done a quick search and a number come up in the manchester area too.

I know I'm in Sweden... but I'm pretty sure you can do the same as me. I get organic hay by the bale dirt cheap directly from a farmer (borrow my nice friends car!). It's really nice and I love to be able to be very generous with it. I store the bales (I buy two at a time) in old duvet covers in the basement and fill paper sacks that fit in one of my closet to bring up to my flat. That way it's always nice and dry when I give it to them. By repacking it I can also check the hay for un hay bits I've heard can be found in organic hay (like thistles) but I've never found any.

I love the Oxbow stuff and will buy the Botanical Hay sometimes for a treat, but the carbon footprint of American hay just makes me cringe...

as we have buns and piggies in three different rooms of the house w ehave "mini stores" also - we store the main bail in our unused garage, and then fill small sacks which we then put one in each room where the animals are - saves us keep getting hay everywhere every day! and as you say means we can check through the hay at the same time.

I get mine from a farm shop too, I get dried barn grass from P@H though. I was concerned the farm one was the one that gave them lice but that bag has finished now so I will see how it goes.

Vetuk is the cheapest for Oxbow Hay and thats ment to be one of the best one! Postage is resonable too!

Hi Suzanne, Look up Leigh's Animal Feeds. They are just off Junction 9 on the M62. Both me a (other) Suzanne Pompypigs get ours from there. They will sell Pet Hay, by the bale to you very cheaply if you can accommodate bales, or you can buy it in very big bags that they make up for you for just £1.30 a bag. It is very fresh and lovely quality, not dusty at all. They also do MEGA bags of top quality, dust extracted shavings, if you use those for £7.50. Brian has just gone there now for me to stock me up on hay. If you want to phone them, the number is 01925 244708 (option 1) it's best to call first and they will make sure they have enough bagged up for you. xx

Ooh these are close to me too! I think I'll be giving them a try when my girls go back outdoors in Spring

Thankyou! :)

I got mine from ebay! it's a great website for hay and light straw! I bought 5 bails(proper big compressed bails!) from there for £20! It's compresses the size(and shape) of a computer tower box and expands to 8 times the size! great value!

i get mine from pet planet its 3.99 a bag it is lovely sweet smelling hay had one bad batch this year and they replaced it for me free delivery when you spend 29 pound can also pay for it through paypal i usually order 6 bags about very 5 weeks during the winter months

I buy from The Hay Experts and/or SPH Supplies. A 22kg box of Oxbow hay is around £65 + £6 delivery.

Not cheap, but actually cheaper than buying small packaged hay from pet shops. And the quality is *much* better.

we have horses so buy in 100 bales at a time for £2.50. my piggies and bunny share the horses hay
