My girls from Pets at Home are way more confident and less skittish than my girl from a breeder. I'd have thought it would be the other way around, although I suppose pet shop animals have to get used to a lot more noise and chaos.

My friendliest piggy is from my local family owned pet store. He is missing an ear and had been there for months because of it. They got him from a local breeder who breeds show pigs. Not a fan of pet stores or breeders, but he had been there for so long so I had to get him...

My friendliest pig is from a rescue called Raystede, they handle their pigs frequently and they were handled from birth :) She will crawl up me like something from a horror film to get a cuddle :))

My friendliest guinea pigs are from a family where she was often handled (they gave her to me cos her cage mate died and she was lonely) and from a local rescue. Her sister from the same rescue is the most skittish of all my herd! I guess a lot of it is down to their individual personality.

Mine have all been from PetSmart (not much going as far as rescues in my area.) They have all been friendly, but some were more active and some were very willing to sleep in my lap for hours. I think personalities vary no matter where they come from.

From pets at home. Much calmer and friendlier than our beeeder one.

I got Velvet and Betsy from Pets at Home and they were friendly from when we brought them home with even though they were a bit skittish to begin with. Christian, Dennis and Meg have been handled since birth though not very much for the first 3 weeks as Velvet was such a protective Mum she would go for us if we went near them. Meg is the most timid of my piggies and is the bottom sow. However, she is quite friendly when picked up for a cuddle. Betsy (my favourite) is friendly and has now started to nip a bit when being handled as she is going blind with cataracts and only nips cos she is frightened. If you talk to her all the time and give her cheek and chin rubs she is fine. When transferring her back to the hutch I often give her a piece of long grass so her mouth is occupied so she can't nip me. Velvet is lovely and is always giving out piggy kisses.

I know they say you shouldn’t buy guinea pigs from large pet stores, but my friendliest and most tame piggie is from petsmart. He is adorable, loves to greet me when I walk near the cage, and is super active!
