Cheapest I can find is from Hyperdrug, at £25 for 1 litre of 2.5% Valbazen.

It is generally used for worming purposes but I need it for an intensive course for a pig who is not maintaining weight. (See Laura's Vet Thread 2008/09 for details)

I can get Panacur much cheaper, I know it can be used as an alternative and often is an alternative when worming. It's £5 for one syringe of Panacur from Hyperdrug - provided I am looking at the right thing!

As far as I have discovered, Valbazen is just more effective at dealing with E.Cunniculi (I think) - so essentially it shouldn't matter too much whether I go with Panacur or Valbazen?

Vets uk have Panacur for rabbits at £3.48 My order took just 48 hours to reach me, they were very good

Sorry, can't help you. Hope they work for little Tuppences, fingers crossed :)

I do normally use that one, after reading Chrissie's article on it. I last wormed everyone with it on 9 December. The Valbazen is for a pig who is having trouble with maintaining weight, probably due to a systemic fungal infection preventing the absorption of nutrients through the gut wall. An intensive course of wormer is the first step, if that doesn't work then it'll have to be a trip to Vedra to get Dida/Intrafungol.

Oh ok! good luck with that then.
Vedra diagnosed one of mine with systemic fungal although it turned out not to be. The dosage and length of course for itrafungal were scarily high...:{

Sometimes the dosages do seem a bit worrying, but then it does depend on severity. Tup was treated for it earlier in the year based on unexplained weight loss, her dose was 0.5ml twice a day for ten days I think. It is possible to treat like this for a further two courses, with a three day break between each course, so the the very worst cases it would be a VERY long course! It's the combination of the stink and the inability to hold any weight that makes me and Vedra suspect that systemic fungal is the problem again, even with her dental problems.

Pigs can be tricky little things. rolleyes

I will keep my fingers crossed that it does the trick, she is a lovely girlie!

BTW, just wondered if you have had her faeces analysed? If she has systemic fungal, worms or an internal parasite for example, this should show up. When Vedra diagnosed Sunny with SF, he was already well into his second week of a 3 week course of baytril which I didn't want to stop at that point. I asked for his poops to be analysed and this showed no trace of fungal infection but did show an intestinal parasite called eimeria (coccidiosis) which would not have been found had I not asked for this test! He didn't present with the usual diahorrea and since being with me from 6 weeks old, has never been near rabbits. It cost about £35 and I thought it was money well spent...just thought I would mention it but you may have done this already :)

Just for references sake you can buy Dida from Holland and Barrett. It is in a pink box - you may have to ask for it but they will order it if they don't have any in. I have bought it there several times on the advice of my rodentologist.
