Hi
I’d bought originally for my two the natures own Timothy hay with dandelion etc in it but I thought by the end of the bag it was looking v dusty. I picked up a packet of ‘Friendly’ brand Timothy hay at the weekend as it looked really lovely and green and opening it, it smells lovely!
At first the girls seemed v excited and scoffed it but on day 3 I think they are just picking through it and eating their preferred bits and leaving the rest the wee rascals!
So hutch is getting a bit messy not to mention wasteful. Which hay do you use and recommend please?
Many thanks

I buy meadow hay in large bales from my local farm shop. They eat it and it’s so fluffy that they love burrowing into it and use it as bedding. It’s so economical as well given it’s a massive bale which so far has lasted me a month and I am not even half way through it yet (two piggies and a rabbit use it)
My two won’t use hay racks so I have just started to put in a bowl of Timothy hay (it’s in a bowl so they don’t poop on as it’s so expensive). The one I have just bought is oxbow Timothy and orchard grass mix.

I live in a city and don't have anywhere local i can buy hay by the bale so we buy the Natures Own Sweet Green Hay Natures Own Pets - We’ve been making top quality hay and straw since 1991. which is lovely. We also buy some of their Timothy Rich hay and add a handful of this each day. If you spend more than £19.95 delivery if free. They also sell different types of forage which my piggies love.

I buy big bags of meadow hay from my local Just for Pets store. It's always lovely and green, fresh smelling and soft.

we use soft hay from www.dustfreehay.co.uk as main feeding hay it is lovely and green

We also feed alfalfa king timothy hay which our oldest girl absolutely adores...

I am in US and I get Kaytee Timothy Hay, Wafer Cut from local pet shop. Here is a picture. I have Finn and Lara so I get about three bags of 60oz or 1.7kg each time I visit the store.

I am in the USA. I use Oxbow Timothy hay. It is very high quality and my girl loves it!
I also get Oxbow botanical hay as a treat. 8E99F2FF-BAAC-43AA-8E69-E2F8E7798CB4.webp820C31E4-0633-4EAD-BE74-B388E76FE109.webp

Some forum members recommended buying direct from Timothy Hay as it’s considerably cheaper than buying from a pet store.
My 9kilo bag arrived yesterday- I ordered on Monday. It cost just over £20 including postage and is really lovely hay (at least the piggies think so, I haven’t actually tried eating it)

I, too, use dustfreehay.co.uk, just yesterday had a 7 kilo bag of British timothy delivered, and the boys love it!

They love the soft hay too, but I find that gets laid on more than eaten (which is fine, but a little wasteful). The Timothy is evenly eaten/weed on!

Hi thanks for your reply.... am I best to go for the soft hay or Timothy? Thanks x

I'm rubbish at maths. I just bought a 3kg large Timothy hay bag from pets at home for 4.99. 3 bags works out cheaper by my calculation compared to getting it direct? Am I mistaken?

I find Timothy hay can be a little stalky so I personally use hay bags but the soft should be fine :)

I currently use american timothy from dust free hay, it's expensive but the best available in the UK. I have some special needs piggies with breathing issues and one other with digestive issues, so this hay is the best I've found to meet the needs of everyone in my herd. Oxbow hay is also good but too dusty for mine. :)
