i never know which are ok! mallethead

i get the -

spinach, watercress, rocket and red chard

wild rocket

:)

I get any types really, except iceberg. Last week in Tesco I got three bags, one of mixed lettuces, one of spinach, watercress and red chard, and one of rocket, for 40 cent each. They were reduced cos they were just starting to go bad, but the piggies didn't mind at all :)

I never get them mixed salad bags. I heard rocket wasn't great to give them.

I either get them spinach, kale, or give them a bit of lettuce if i happen to get one for my own cooking. they only get lettuce as a very special treat as it's not good for them to eat regularly. same with cabbage.

what did you hear about rocket? thought it would be fine - it is on the safe food list and is a leafy green!

some of the mixed bags have things in them that i haven't heard of! like the lettuce mixes.

^ not sure lol it's just something I've never fed mine.
and that is another reason i never feed them the mixed bags- there are some things in there that I haven't found on safe foods lists.
idk it just seems a bit unsafe to me, i'd rather stick to bags of one type of veg that I know is definately safe for them :)

ye, there seem to be loads of mixes with mainly safe things in, but then they ruin it by putting some unknown things in! don't they know people have piggies! :))

I figure that if they are safe for us to eat, they are probably safe for piggies :) They're unlikely to be poisonous, and I think you can tell by looking which will upset their tummies mostly. I dunno, in small amounts anyway, they love trying new things.

just a tip from someone who works at asda- if you rummage a little and find any produce with todays date on it just mention it to anyone on the fruit and veg department and they should reduce it for you by at least 50%-it gets done anyway but if they miss any they want to sell it before it must be binned!

i wouldn't go by that rule, tbh. my rule is if i'm not sure, i don't give it to them.
and especially with leafy greens, how can you tell if it's safe for them to eat? guinea pigs are not humans, you can't really use that as a guide to feeding them!
