At the moment I feed my guinea-pigs burgess excel pellets, but they don't seem to eat very much of it, or like it very much, can someone suggest another pellet food? I have 3 female guinea-pigs, 1 male, and they are all adults (I don't know if that makes any difference to which food I feed them)

I know a lot of people say its a good food, but compared to the mix they used to have, they eat hardly any of it. They used to have a mix, and they ate a lot of that but they were selective feeders and just picked bits out so I'd like to find another pellet food for them so they won't pick bits out but one they like more.

I've got lots of science selective which is meant to be good - although mine turned their noses up at it! If I can dig it out of the cupboard would you like me to send you some as a sample for them? Have you tried the burgess blackcurrant one? Again I have some (my piggies are/were all so fussy!). Can send you some of that too!

I also use burgess nuggets and my pair beg for them...they love it! Adult piggies should only get one egg cup of nuggets each a day so mine get half egg cup each in morning and same at night...so it isn't very much that they need to eat :)

none of mine have ever liked the blackcurrant ones :{

i use marsdens guinea pig crunch, wagg optimum and excel blackcurrant and oregano ones :)

Funnily enough, after I posted I popped a handful in for Misty who has taken a renewed liking to them! She is soo much less fussy than her sister was - it is weird shopping now for the piggie who will eat nearly anything!

Thank you :) I was thinking about science selective, but I've read that its an alfafa based pellet? So would it be ok for 4 adult guinea-pigs? I might buy a bag of wagg optimum for them, is that a good food?

IMO they eat more museli because they pick out the yummy bits and leave the not so yummy but often healthier bits!

It's not really a big deal if they don't eat many pellets, they don't *need* commercial piggy food in their diet, as long as they're getting their fibre and vit. C needs from hay (80% total diet minimum) and fresh veg.

I've always found excel to be pretty high quality, and fairly decent stuff - I saw a big change in my pigs when I started feeding them on it, compared to the poorer diets they'd been on before they came to me.

As others have mentioned, there is the blackcurrant and oregano version, and there's also other good quality brands, I believe Science Selective is supposed to be the "top" brand.

At the end of the day, if your pigs are getting their nutritional needs met through their hay and veg, it's not such a bad thing if they chose not to eat too many pellets.

I wish I could get mine to eat less - they're currently on diets! :))

:)) He's getting a flabby chin! He's just constantly gaining weight at a rate of 2-4g a week at the moment! He was 1.16g when I got him in April, he's now 1.32g!

I've restricted his pellet intake - poor little guy is most upset! lol It's working well though - he doesn't like the blackcurrant and oregano ones, so I put plenty of them in for Cameo, and he gets a few measley ordinary flavour ones :))

Mr Multi chin! (Complete with a low calorie lettuce!) x)

All of my piggles are on Wagg Optimum; it's gone down a treat with them! They don't like the Burgess so much anymore and will always take Wagg first. It's a good food and they love it. :)
