White gunk in perineal sac.

Was doing the weekly genitalia check (I have 3 long haired piggies and am forever pulling hair out of their willies) and I noticed that Ollie's perineal sac was particularly stinky and gunky. I wiped around with a cotton bud and he didn't seem to mind, but the cotton bud came out coated in white gunk and hair that had got trapped in there.
ACK, the smell!

My question is, is it normal for boars to have white discharge down there? And should I clean them out on a more regular basis? Is it even safe to clean them out? :{

I think its pretty normal for boars to have a combination of white/cream/hary gunky smelly debri in the sac. Its so stinky. Actually does anyone know what purpose the sac serves? Other than collecting gunk for slaves?
Is it bright white or just a kinda white creamy gunky colour?

I believe the perineal sac holds the soft faecal pellets until the piggies eat them.

Quite normal and some smellier than others, and they like to open it up and drag it along the ground to mark the territory.

This is really important...was the gunk bright white or cream?

From my own experience over many years as a piggie-owning microbiologist.....


Bright white equals possible specfiic fungal

Cream equals something else - normally standard boar behaviour!

Hesitant to post more until I have facts....i.e. ...Not sorted untill the fat lady sings (edit!.and the colour/symptoms are properly dislosed.)
