I have my 2 guineapigs Miranda and Bridget, but I really would like to adopt either a corn snake or a ball python. The only issue would be the snake would have to be kept in the same room as the guineapigs.
I have been researching snakes for over a year and this is somthing I would really like to adopt one day...
Now I have read from some people on america forums that their piggies have no reaction to having a snake in the room....but I wanted to ask on a uk forum as i respect your opinions.
If the piggies would be frightened to smell a snake in the room...I will wait until I no longer keep piggies in the future....I'm not in a rush if it would upset the piggies...but i have my heart on getting a snake some day in the future..so I thought I would ask.

Thank you in advance

Jenny

There is a member on here who has a snake, though I can’t remember off the top of my head! Hopefully she’ll be along soon to answer you.

Yes I do. As snakes don't really have much of a smell and are kept in an enclosed tank they shouldn't bother your piggie but the smell of piggies may make your snake go into "food mode" making it hard for the snake to relax and may make them more likely to bite when you go to hold them. My snake is kept upstairs while my piggies are downstairs so they don't really know about each other. The other thing to consider is making sure your snakes tank or viv is completely escape proof, locked at all times, an escaped snake is not great for any owner but could be catastrophic if you had piggies in the house. even though spirit would definitely lose in a fight with my boys that doesn't mean there wouldn't be some nasty injuries all round.

This is spirit ,he's a corn snake and I couldn't imagine life without him now that he's mine. I hope you find a way to keep your own special worm one day but it may be wise to wait until they can be in separate rooms

That's very interesting. As piggy owners we always look at the possible impact an other pet species may have on the pigs and not so much the other way round. You defiantly wouldn't want any pet not to be able to relax.

Thank you. I guess I will just wait until I no longer have piggies as I live at home with my parents due to health reasons...so the snake would need to be in my room too. Thank you.
