That I can bloody well have guinea pigs AND a baby. I have lost count of the number of people who are surprised I haven't "got rid" of the guinea pigs now I have a child. I'm not the first person in the world to have guinea pigs and then go on to have a baby. People are genuinely surprised I still love my piggies! PFFT!

Sorry, rant over. >:(

Ah Welcome to the you've got kids so your life has to STOP club! ;D

Having pets is beneficial to children especially youngsters. My Nan said if the health visitor came out and saw my pigs and Tika I'd have the girls taken off me! 98)

The mentality of some people astounds me! 98) >:D

i got exactly the same reaction 5 year ago arent some people dumb 98)

just ignore them O0

when i am having a conversation with some people and i tell them i have 11 piggies they say how on earth do you have time for that lot someone once even said oh i dont like guinea pigs they are smelly and bite hello have you ever actually owned a guinea pig i have two children aged 10 and 14 my oldest son is autistic and both my boys love the piggies they dont help with the cleaning out mind you but love sitting down with them and giving them cuddles i think pets are good for children ignore peoples comments they dont know what they are talking about

My nan always asks why i havent got rid of mine yet and i havent even had a baby! i dont know why she thinks i got them in the 1st place if she thinks i'd just get rid of them like that. so annoying! x

When my aunt came down she said she couldn't get a proper look at our house because it was "taken over by animals".

That's 4 pigs.

i have 2 small children as well some people are just ignorant. I wish I had got them sooner tbh as my 20 month old daughter is so much more gentel and caring towardsa them where as my son isn't as in to them yes he loves them but my daughter shares her apple with them and helps her self to the savoy to rip off and give them some. :smitten:

I think it's so lovely kinda makes your family complete plus piggie are like having extra children anyway ;)

Some people just don't 'get' animals, and many of them seem to think they are some sort of substitute for babies/children, and when a baby is born then the animla is superceded. We had our dog 5 years before our daughter and it was a family member, it was/is loved and valued and is 'for life'.

We don't have any kids so see our animals as our fur babies ;D I don't care what anyone says, if we ever do get around to kids which isn't likely, my furries are most definately staying put!

Caitlin is very gentle too, she loves animals and has this cute little voice when she sees one and goes awwwww. I was so frightened as a child of all animals so it's nice to have them.

A couple of rescue boys have nipped me playfully when they thought I was a carrot but other than that I have never been bitten, not even from Sunshine who is always moaning at me! ;D

My Dad says people come first, I do follow that idea myself so we agree on something but I love my furries and it is something we can all get involved with as a family!

Tika loves my Dad as well, she stops what she is doing and sits up right starring at him!...lol

I get LOTS of comments from family member and some friends about the amount of animals. We have 3 dogs, a cat, 2 buns and 11 pigs. People say they can't understand why we have so many, and 'what would we want them for?' ! and apparently we have 'far too many'
they are a lot of work and take up time & money but if we didn't want them/didn't think we could care for them, we wouldn't have them ;D

i have 4 kids 2 cats and 10 piggies (and a OH) and i wouldn't be without any one of them i also wouldn't have them if i didn't think 100% that i could look after them properly! it does really annoy me when people talk about them like their some sort of possession you could just "get rid" of! 98)

My great aunt (who hates animals) won't visit because she can't believe I have a "rodent" and "infant" in the same house. Even my GP says it's more hygienic to have a vegetarian piggy than a cat!

When I had my recent Ofsted inspection (i'm a Registered Childminder) the fact that I have animals was seen as very positive. The inspector thought it great that the children get to experience the importance of caring for, feeding and keeping animals clean and safe. :)

People are always making remarks to me that I own a zoo (I have 2 guinea pigs and 2 cats - hardly a zoo) and that I'm a tree hugger because I love animals and always stand up for them. 98)

Unfortunately I have seen several friends recently who have had babies and I see which once was their beloved pets now being kinda shuffed to the side - one dog has become aggressive towards other dogs since 1 month before she was due. I hate to see pets that were once the apple of their owner's eye suddenly being kicked to the side because a baby comes along. Pets should be treated exactly the same as they were before - fair enough time has to be shared between them but don't suddenly treat them like they don't matter. :tickedoff:

well me and mum are childminders and i have 12 piggies and known of the parents have a problem with them

and the kids love them there just part of the fmaily

I have the same problem with my family don't worry. if the consultant told me that the hair and dust was affecting Maeve the piggies would have went. But if an animal isn't bothering the childs health then its a good thing having pets. It annoys me when i meet mothers that clean and sterilise everything in sight and keep all pets away and dont let the kids play in mud. I honestly feel some dirt can build up the immune system.

It's great that people have animals AND children.

It makes me angry when people automatically assume that pets must go when kids come along....... when the second child comes along, they don;t suggest that the first child should be re-homed do they? so why do they suggest that animals should be!
grrrrrrr
As I was growing up we always had dogs in the household and I loved it....o/h grew up with dogs/cats in the household. Never did us any harm.....

My bunnies and my piggy are part of the family and they always will be.

I hate people who do that!

So many people say that animals are smelly, expecially rodents (and cavy's), but forget that us humans are pretty stinky too if we're not cleaned properly. And I've never known a rodent, of any variety, burp, or fart.

And they are theurapeutic! I'm doing a social work degree, work in a homeless shelter, and seeing my wee guys all happy, in a lovely clean run with plenty of nice food and hay makes me feel so much better about life at the end of some very long days. I'm sure I'm going to need that more and more as the years go by, getting full time work again, maybe kids coming along, etc

That's what my mum says if theres a tiny spec of wood shavings on the floor. :tickedoff:

It's mad isn't it. On a daily basis I get, oh you still have the rabbit, they smell! 98) Well ok the poop smells worse than guinea pigs but I change her daily so its not a problem!

Argh! Drives me mad! ;D

;)I have 14 piggies and 5 kids, and a husband lol,why do pple think life ends when u have kids. ::)

My step daughter turned up with infected flea bites on her legs, her mother is a scabby mutt....
We took her straight to the doctors on picking her up from her mums, as she was covered from head to toe, we got her medicine etc.... and her mum said they were from our house because we have 9 guinea pigs, 2 hamsters and a cat...
The mum has a cat and a dog, the mums boyfriend has 2 cats and they have put flea stuff on the pets a few days apart but not deflead the house, bedding, carpets or sofa!
5 social workers have visited our house in less than a year and have commented on how well we keep our house and that the mums house is a **** tip.
I check my cat every day for fleas when he comes up on me for a nightly cuddle.

Hi I know what it is like , I have 4 children , 1 pony , 3 dogs, 7 rabbits, 1 guinea pig & 2 hamsters they are all loved & well taken care of , my neighbours love my animals , my famuily think I should not have as many pets, but they are starting to come round to my understanding , that my family are happy , & that my children love their pets , & they help muck out & give all the pets cuddles , strokes , & the odd treat , having animals gives children another out look they learn responsibility & how to respcet animals . .My health visitor thinks I am mam in a million , having 4 children & rehoming rabbits & now guinea pigs, & hamsters , people have phoned me up to take on their pets as they can no longer look after them , People will come round to your way of thinking & who know they may get the guinea pig bug as well . from Tanya :)

When my mum had me and my brother people said the same thing but my mum had rabits (we only have guinea pigs now).
and guinea pigs are really good pets for children as long as you show them the right way to treat the guinea pigs.

it is pathetic how people go "how come you still have guineapigs?" when i tell my friends i have guineapigs i say cavies because then they don't go on and on about "you are wayy too old to have giuneapigs" most of the time it works.... some people go whars a cavie? my friend thought a cavie was a type of frog....

I get the 'still got your guinea pigs' comment...er...no I've eaten them! 98) Nutters!
