Why did Piggy Die?

Try not to tie yourself up in knots thinking about it, you did the best you could at that time. I feel the same about some of my past pigs, wishing I had done more, but I didn't know at the time, it has taken time but I have had to make my peace with that.

There is no guarantee giving a probiotic would have saved Piggy, there may have been more than one factor in her illness which led to her passing, but perhaps even doing as much as is possible to treat her (SubQ fluids, intensive syringe feeding, probiotics, antibiotics) wouldn't have saved her. Sometimes it is just their time.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It doesn't sound like it's anything you did wrong- six is a good age for a guinea pig. Unfortunately little pets can get sick very fast... we lost one of our piggies earlier this summer and in spite of treatment she went downhill so quickly, and she was much younger. It may just have been her time... try not to feel guilty, it sounds like you gave her a great home and a good, long life.
